Most people think of dresses when they think of mother-of-the-bride and -groom attire, but that doesn't mean a traditional gown is a requirement. In fact, we think more mothers of the bride and groom should consider wearing suits on the big day. No matter what your style—feminine, classic, trendy—there is a chic suit that will suit your personal preferences. (Pun intended.) We love how elevated and polished a blazer and pants combination looks, and finding a matching set makes curating a put-together look entirely effortless. Put it on and you won't have worry about finding a coordinating wrap for the reception or the need to readjust your attire throughout the wedding festivities, as can sometimes happen with a dress.
Thinking about wearing a suit for your son or daughter's wedding? When shopping for your attire, make fit your top priority. Tailoring can be a great option and an investment, as you'll be able to wear your suit time and time again after the big day is over. There are so many colors and varieties to choose from, too, depending on the wedding location and season. If your child is getting married in a garden or at avineyard, try pastel colors, like pale blue, lavender, yellow, and peach, and breezier fabrics. For a black-tie wedding, a gorgeous black jacquard suit will make a chic statement. For a more casual celebration (maybe one taking place on the beach or your own backyard!), consider suits in seersucker fabrics or with checked patterns.
And if you're still on the fence about forgoing a dress entirely, try a suit-skirt or suit-dress combination. (We're envisioning something Jackie O.-inspired, like a tailored sheath dress paired with a matching jacket, which will always be timeless.) Here, we've rounded up a variety of them to flatter just about every mother-of-the-bride and groom.
