Idris Elba married Sabrina Dhowre in April 2019, at the Ksar Char Bagh hotel in Marrakesh, Morocco—a destination they chose because it nods to the couple's East and West African roots, reports British Vogue. But, believe it or not, Elba didn't think the day would ever come: He told the publication that he wasn't sure he'd ever get married again. That all changed once he was introduced to Dhowre, he says, adding that the two have been "inseparable since [they] met."
Elba and Dhowre's love story began when they first set eyes on each other in a Vancouver jazz bar in 2017. Though the actor had already been married twice before—and never imagined he'd walk down the aisle again—Elba's "love at first sight" run-in with Dhowre altered his life for the better.
Their wedding day was an extravagant three-day event attended by friends and family. The duo hosted a "colors of the Souk" dinner before the wedding—then threw an all-white party the day following the ceremony. British Vogue noted that Dhowre wore two custom dresses by Vera Wang; Elba sported an Ozwald Boateng suit for the service.
In addition to telling the publication all about his Moroccan nuptials, Elba also explained how his new wife has shaped his world. The actor credits Dhowre for encouraging him to strengthen his relationships with others. "Sabrina has deepened friendships with people I've known longer than [her], nurturing the best side of me to make me connect to my friends more," he explained.
