One Couple Planned a Stylish Black-and-White Wedding in Los Angeles

Danielle never saw Kevin's proposal coming. "One day, my mom told me she had a friend who could no longer make her coveted reservation and was wondering if we wanted to take her table," says Danielle. "I usually make all of our dinner reservations, so I would have been suspicious if Kevin randomly booked a prime ocean-view table during sunset. It worked! I was not expecting a proposal that night at all!" The pair agreed to a meet for a drink an hour before dinner; Kevin asked Danielle to walk towards the beach when she arrived in Malibu—where he was waiting with flowers and Champagne. "In typical Danielle fashion, she decided to check out the shops instead!" says Kevin. "I had to throw my flowers and Champagne in the back of the car and improvise. I couldn't wait any longer and decided to propose the moment we were seated at Nobu. It was so perfect and emotional we couldn't even eat our dinner."

Choosing a wedding venue was easy for the couple, who live next door to the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. "Their food is amazing, the space is beautiful, and the idea of getting married at a place so close to our home was really special," says Danielle. "We booked the venue 15 months in advance, so every time we walked by it our excitement about the big day was reignited." Kevin says there was another benefit to getting hitched so close their house: "For me it was a good idea because I figured I would probably forget something at home!"

On October 6, 2018, the pair exchanged vows in front of 125 guests. "Our wedding was special because it was the first time our families and childhood friends were all together," says Kevin. "We feel incredibly blessed that everyone combined so seamlessly into one."

After trying on more than a dozen wedding dresses from various designers, Danielle fell in love with the "Englantine" ball gown by Vera Wang. Featuring a ruched bodice, draped tulle skirt, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and a detachable flower composed of black chiffon, the gown brought the bride and her shopping companions to tears. "As soon as I walked out of the dressing room, both my mom and my maid of honor got emotional (which made me emotional). I knew I had found my dress," she says.

An Exquisite Veil

Danielle's veil incorporated a delicate panel of lace, a nod to her long-held belief that she would wear lace on her wedding day. "The dress I fell in love with has absolutely no lace on it at all," she says. "The veil was my opportunity to incorporate lace into my look. And my mom kept insisting, 'The longer the veil, the better!'"

Danielle's Tacori engagement ring was the showpiece of her wedding-day jewelry. "I'm an artist, and I wouldn't feel right giving Danielle a symbol of love if it wasn't art itself," Kevin says. "The ring I chose features unique details and reflects Danielle's style and personality. It was a representation of how I feel about her."

The bride wanted to be comfortable on her big day without sacrificing style, so she opted for a fashionable, but wearable choice: Her transparent Chanel boots from the house's Spring 2018 collection. "I fell in love with these boots as soon as I saw them on the runway and saved the photo in my phone," Danielle says. "I bought them when they hit stores earlier in the year and a few people said, 'Where are you even going to wear them?' Well, I found the perfect occasion!"

Danielle asked the women in her bridal party to wear white outfits of their choice, providing general shape and fabric guidance. "From the very beginning, I knew I wanted all of my girls in white," she says. "I loved that they were all slightly different and that my maid of honor, Rachel, wore a white jumpsuit." Along with the groomsmen, the "bridesmen" in her party were asked to wear their own black suit, allowing them to show off their personal style. Kevin's cousin, Hilary, who stood up for the groom, wore an elegant black dress that coordinated flawlessly.

Another member of the honor party was Henry, Danielle's 12-year-old maltipoo. "Henry has been with me since I was 19 years old, so I've always known he would have to be a special part of my wedding day," says the bride. "He was very well behaved and stole the show in his little tux."

A Sweet Ceremony

The couple skipped a first look so Kevin could see his bride for the first time on the aisle. After the emotional processional, the non-religious ceremony was officiated by a longtime family friend. "Kevin and I both really love and admire her, [so] it was a very special element of our wedding day," says Danielle.

The bride and groom exchanged handwritten vows. "I saved ideas of what I wanted to say over the course of the month before the wedding," says Kevin. "I was still making little changes all the way until a few hours before. Danielle's a good writer so I knew I had some competition." As for Danielle? She also made mental notes of what to include in the weeks leading up to the big day, but didn't put pen to paper until the night before the wedding. "After reading through them once, I didn't revisit them again until it was show time!" she says.

The ballroom at the Four Seasons was filled with mirrored tables, and masses of white flowers, and candlelight. "Nancy from Mark's Garden did a beautiful job bringing our vision to life with gorgeous white roses, tulips, and an abundance of greenery," says Danielle. Anemones and ranunculus blossoms rounded out the snowy scene while glossy leaves and amaranthus added a pop of green.
