Amy Schumer finally revealed the story behind how her now-husband, Chris Fischer, proposed—and it's hilarious, of course. The comedian opened up about the moment during her new Netflix special, Amy Schumer: Growing, which was released on Tuesday. As Schumer explains during the segment, she was sleeping when Fischer tossed a ring box at her and said, "I got you this." He opened it and continued, "Do you want me to get down on one knee?" As expected, Schumer responded, "I guess not," before going back to sleep.
The comedian's uncoventional proposal is unsurprising, considering that tradition doesn't seem to be Schumer's style. She wed Fischer in February of 2018 after less than a year of dating and admitted on a podcast that she wrote her wedding vows in 20 minutes. In the interview, Schumer said she thanked her husband for making her laugh, smile, and for always cooking her food during the ceremony.
If you ask Schumer, she wouldn't have had it any other way. "We don't complete each other, we complement and support each other," she told Catt Sadler's website, The Cattwalk. "He makes me laugh and feel supported and has his own life going on. I love that weirdo." She's also grateful to Fischer for helping her feel more comfortable in her own skin: "I stopped focusing on it," the I Feel Pretty actress said. "I rarely think about how I look anymore. Honestly, it's so freeing and you get a lot more done and are a lot happier. You need to do the work to actually love the person you are."
