There's no doubt about it: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 2018 royal wedding had a star-studded guest list. George Clooney, David Beckham, Serena Williams, and more VIPs came out to celebrate the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's big day. Another celebrity who got an invite? Idris Elba. However, his role in Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding went beyonod that of an invitee—the actor was also asked to DJ the big event. Recently, Elba sat down on The Ellen Show, where he revealed exactly how he got hired by Prince Harry.
According to the actor, the two met through Prince Charles' charity and had become friends over the years—the prince was also a major fan of Elba's DJ skills. "Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJed and he was like, 'What are you doing on [May 19]?'" he told Ellen Degeneres. Naturally, Elba was shocked. "I told him nothing and then he asked if I would DJ at his wedding...I was like is this a joke?"
Although this was a big gig for Elba, it certainly wasn't his first. On the 2019 Golden Globes red carpet, the actor told Ryan Seacrest that he has been playing house music his whole life. He is even slated to play Coachella this year. "I'm gonna rock Coachella, I can't wait," he said. "It's a lifetime ambition to play Coachella, for any DJ, for artist," he added. "So I'm going in."
Harry and Meghan's evening reception wasn't all house music, however. Guests also enjoyed a performance by Elton John and a playlist created by Sam Totolee, who also performed at Pippa Middleton's wedding, reports The Sun.
