Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth wed nearly two weeks ago in an intimate and secret ceremony in their Nashville, Tennessee home. However, fans are still wondering what made them finally decide to tie the knot after being together for almost 10 years. The answer? A source told People that the couple finally felt the timing was just right.
Cyrus and Hemsworth originally intedended to hold the ceremony at their house in Malibu. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by the California wildfire—but the tragedy brought the duo closer together and strengthened their bond. "They were both devastated after the fire," the source told the outlet. "The way Liam took charge and helped her deal with that tragedy just adds another layer of love and security."
The newlyweds famously split up back in 2013, but got back together in 2016 after three years apart. Cyrus said the break up gave her time to grow as a person. "You get time to be yourself," she told SiriusXM in 2017. "You get time to grow up. I think if you're growing up attached to another person, you never really get solid as your own being. So I'm really solid, and then he gets to be really solid. And together we get to be two really grounded people. It's not a half and a half making a whole."
The People insider said this was one of the reasons the couple finally made took the next step in their relationship. "He lets her be Miley, and she has been blown away by his intelligence and ability to deal with her ups and downs. She has learned a lot about life, happiness and heartbreak from him. The truth is that something deep was there from the beginning." A friend of the singer also told the outlet that Cyrus admires her new husband for his carefree attitude. "Miley and Liam's relationship has evolved so beautifully over the past few years. She adores his sense of loyalty, adventure and independence," she said. "Now her best friend is also her husband. Miley is so happy."
