Some couples find that choosing wedding invitations means making sacrifices. You might feel that most modern styles don't feel romantic enough or that you have to pass on intricate detailing, like calligraphy or hand-painted motifs, to make your budget work. Now, Artifact Uprising's latest collaboration changes things entirely. The affordable stationer teamed up with Venamour, a New York City-based design studio known for its luxury paper goods, to meld the romantic with the contemporary. The resulting invitation set, titled The Venamour Botanical Wedding Suite, finds the perfect balance between the two.

A major bonus? The just-released set features the elevated aesthetic we've come to expect from Venamour at the price point that makes Artifact Uprising so accessible. The true success of the suite, however, is its incredible detailing. Collage-inspired floral vines bring a liveliness to the otherwise clean, cool, and minimal stationery (an Artifact Uprising signature). To learn more about how this incredible paper set came to be, we tapped both Venamour's Lisa Hedge and Artifact Uprising Creative Director, Emily Dubin, to walk us through design process, which began with combining the two companies' aesthetics.

"At the beginning of the collaboration, Artifact Uprising's art directors and I spoke about how we could approach the design of a floral collection that would be an exciting hybrid of our two visual languages," says Hedge. "We determined that creating new compositions with colorful, illustrative blooms in delicate arrangements alongside their signature wedding collection typefaces, would work as a beautiful addition to their current type-centric offering."

The collection marks a distinct departure from Artifact Uprising's minimalist invitation offerings—which is exactly why their team wanted to work with Hedge in the first place. "When designing our full Wedding Suites collection, it became clear that we wanted one of the 10 designs to be floral, which wasn't an element we had introduced within our product line (until now!)," adds Dubin. "Lisa's design style rounds out our overall Wedding Card Suites perfectly."

As for the stationery's intricate detailing? Hedge took a fresh approach to bring the suite's "slightly surreal" flower vines to life. "Every floral detail was an original illustration, but not illustration in a traditional hand-drawn sense. I created them through a digital collage-like method that involves manipulating original photographs of floral blooms into new and slightly surreal compositions," she explains.

Combined with the sleek-but-whimsical paper cuts and envelope shapes—note the curved envelope flaps—the paper goods feel both "unexpected and whimsical," says Hedge, adding that their unique, customizable composition (you can add gold leaf accents) makes them appealing to most of-the-moment brides: "The modern bride loves the simplicity of smart and minimal design, but she doesn't shy away from the romance and playful expressiveness of floral illustrations with moments of lush color. This bride might be planning a wedding at a modern art museum in East Hampton or a bohemian soirée in Big Sur."
