Prince Harry recently shared that he's beyond excited for the arrival of his and Meghan Markle's baby, whatever his or her gender. "We couldn't think of a better place to announce the, um, upcoming baby. Boy or girl," he told government officials last week, upon his and Markle's arrival in Australia. While that's undoubtedly still true, the Duke was just overhead admitting that he has a slight preference—according to a video posted to a fan's Instagram account, the Duke of Sussex is hoping for a girl.
The video shows Prince Harry at the Invictus Games' cycling competition, where a fan shouted out her own wishes for his child. "I hope it's a girl!" she called out. He agreed with her: "So do I."
Several fans are speculating that this subtle preference indicates that Harry and Markle are, in fact, expecting a girl. Though we'll have to wait and see—the royal family typically doesn't reveal a baby's sex until after he or she is born—the royal couple recently had a telling interaction that could offer more proof. After the duo met a fan's 5-month-old daughter, Harry seemed particularly interested in the baby's name. "As soon as I introduced my daughter to Harry, he said, 'That's a great name,'" she told E! News. It's possible that "Harriet" is now on the long list of names the couple has since generated on their tour.
Meghan Markle might have a bit more time to contemplate these names, since, according to a schedule modification confirmed by the Royal Household, she'll be cutting back on public appearances for the remainder of her time in Australia: "After a busy programme, The Duke and Duchess have decided to cut back The Duchess's schedule slightly for the next couple of days, ahead of the final week and a half of the tour."
