After over a month of speculation, Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber finally told a fan they're officially married. According to Us Weekly, the news came straight from the bride's and groom's mouths after a curious bystander inquired if they had, in fact, tied the knot. "I asked them if they were married and they simultaneously said yes!" said Nona Melkoni, who ran into the pair in a Los Angeles restaurant earlier this week. "They were both very happy and kind. He told me that she's his angel. They were super sweet!"
It's been one month since the couple—who got engaged earlier this year, shortly after rekindling their on-again off-again romance—was seen entering a New York City court house, where sources insisted they partook in a civil ceremony. But no official statements have been made to confirm (or deny!) their marital status directly. Us Weekly also reports that the singer referred to Baldwin as "his wife" during a recent trip to his native Canada, but that's as far as either party has gone to reveal their true relationship status.
The reason for the delayed announcement could concern the couple's belief system and, consequently, definition of marriage. Baldwin explained that she "feels a civil ceremony and their 'real' wedding are two separate things." Another insider noted that a religious wedding, where the couple make a vow before God and the people they love, will happen soon enough.
According to Bieber, the marriage (and upcoming wedding!) has been a long time coming. In a 2016 interview with GQ, the "Sorry" singer predicted that his Baldwin, his then-girlfriend, would become his future wife.
