Emmys 2018: The Best Couples on the Red Carpet
The Emmy Awards may revolve around celebrating excellence on the small screen, but TV's biggest night out is also about support—support for the arts, support for the nominated actors and actresses, and support for our favorite celebrity couples. To mark a career milestone like an Emmy nod, nominees typically bring their significant others—husbands and wives, fiancés and fiancées, boyfriends and girlfriends—along to commemorate the evening (it's a big deal!). Although we love the suspense and ensuing speeches, we're particularly enthralled with what comes first: the red carpet, where our favorite A-list couples show off their most important relationships. Where else do you get to see celebrity couple after celebrity couple pose, chat, and flaunt their bond for the camera?
The 2018 Emmy Awards didn't disappoint in this department, thanks to duos like John Legend and Chrissy Teigen (the pair are fresh off celebrating Legend's EGOT status!), Sterling K. Brown and Ryan Michelle Bathe (Brown, who won the 2017 Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy for his role in This Is Us, was nominated yet again), and Yvonne Strahovski and Tim Loden (Strahovski, who's pregnant for the pair's first child, is nominated for her role in The Handmaid's Tale). Each twosomes had reason to celebrate, and their mutual excitement and love were tangible on the red carpet.
They weren't the only couples to make a statement during the pre-show coverage. Emmy host and SNL star Colin Jost walked the carpet with his girlfriend, Scarlett Johansson. Jessica Biel, nominated for her performance in The Sinner, posed proudly with Justin Timberlake by her side. Ahead, all of the duos that made the 2018 Emmy Awards the best yet. And the Emmy for cutest celebrity couple on the red carpet goes to…
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
Jessica Biel is up for Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role in The Sinner (the star's first Emmy nod!), and husband Justin Timberlake was by her side to show his support. Although the actress wore pink on her own wedding day, we're getting some serious bridal vibes from her geometric white dress.
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen
John Legend has been racking up awards for his role in Jesus Christ Superstar, including an Emmy—which means the "All of Me" singer just reached EGOT status (Legend already had Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards). He (in Gucci) and his wife, Chrissy Teigen (in Zuhair Murad), are scheduled to present at the award show.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter
Benedict Cumberbatch (who’s nominated for his lead role in Patrick Melrose), brought his wife, Sophie Hunter, along for support.
Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson was a vision in white (talk about wedding dress inspiration!) alongside her boyfriend, Emmy host and SNL star Colin Jost.
Sterling K. Brown and Ryan Michelle Bathe
Sterling K. Brown, who's nominated for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, stepped out with wife Ryan Michelle Bathe. The This Is Us star, who wore Dolce & Gabbana, told E! News that Bathe, in Melissa Masse, "outdid her gorgeousity" this year.
William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman
Hollywood powerhouse couple William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman just celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary. They're clearly still in sync—their coordinated black tuxedos prove it. As does Macy's secret to keeping his and Huffman's love alive, which he revealed on the gold carpet: "Marry her. It's a piece of cake."
Justin Hartley and Chrishell Hartley
Justin Hartley, whose show This Is Us is nominated for Best Drama, and wife Chrishell Hartley were extra fashionable for their Hollywood date night. She stepped out in a satin Dolce & Gabbana dress while he wore a Giorgio Armani tuxedo.
Yvonne Strahovski and Tim Loden
At last year's Emmys, Yvonne Strahovski, surprised everyone by revealing she was married. This year, the Best Actress nominee and her husband, Tim Loden, showed off The Handmaid's Tale star's baby bump.
Lakeith Stanfield and Xosha Roquemore
Lakeith Stanfield, who plays Darius in the Emmy-nominated show Atlanta and stars in Sorry to Bother You, held his wife Xosha Roquemore (known for her work on The Mindy Project) close as they posed on the carpet. The couple welcomed their first child in June 2017.
Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton
Charlie Heaton and Natalia Dyer's on-screen chemistry is just as apparent in real life. The couple attended the 2018 Emmys representing their show, Stranger Things.
Darren Criss and Mia Swier
It's been a great year for Darren Criss. He proposed to longtime girlfriend Mia Swier in January, then scored a Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie nomination for his role in American Crime Story, The Assassination of Gianni Versace.
James Corden and Julia Carey
James Corden—The Late Late Show was nominated in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category—subtly referenced wife Julia Carey's look. His black-lined cobalt blue tux highlighted her dark lace dress and sapphire clutch.
Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef
Ricky Martin received his first Emmy nod for his role in American Crime Story, The Assassination of Gianni Versace, but the nomination is bittersweet—he's up against two of his costars! Win or lose, it'll be a great end to an even better year for the star. The two-time Grammy winner married Jwan Yosef earlier this year.
Stephen Colbert and Evelyn McGee-Colbert
Evelyn McGee-Colbert might have hit the gold carpet in support of her Emmy-nominated husband, but she made a statement on her own in a pink gown with a bedazzled bodice.
Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons
Though Fargo didn't receive any nominations this year, costars Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons (who welcomed their son Ennis back in May) still attended the Emmys hand in hand.
