A Jewel-Themed Bridal Shower in New York City
When Colleen Banks got engaged to Steve McManus, they started planning a July wedding in Newport, Rhode Island. But before the senior associate style editor at Martha Stewart Weddings could have her destination wedding, her coworkers wanted to throw her a bridal shower in a theme that honors the area she covers most: jewelry.
Style director Naomi DeMañana created the overall style and theme of the shower. She kept Colleen's fun style and favorite things in mind and drew inspiration from her job as a jewelry editor, where the bride-to-be is surrounded by amazing baubles on a daily basis. "We wanted to make sure the party reflected her youthful aesthetic while still feeling luxurious and elegant. The Baccarat New York was the perfect space with its over-the-top grandeur and perfected elegance, it feels like you have entered a giant jewel box of sorts," Naomi says.
To add the fun, there were Mylar balloons that looked like huge gemstones, a cake that mimicked the famous Baccarat chandeliers, gilded leaves arranged with saturated flowers, metallic crepe paper for more texture, and an assortment of candy jewels to make it one fantastic fête.
dress) and activities that celebrated Colleen's upcoming wedding and her love of all things jewels. All the while, they feasted on gorgeous treats from the hotel's grand salon and toasted the happy couple in style (with Baccarat crystal Champagne flutes, of course).
Bell'Invito designed the square invitations to feel like gems. An added pop came in the form of gold foil accents.
Small, colorful notebooks were set out to decorate as a bridal shower activity-turned-fun keepsake. Trays were filled with gem-shaped cut outs, heart-shaped photos of Colleen as a kid and with Stephen over the years, 3D gem stickers, and glue sticks.
The bride-to-be's two sisters were in attendance, and each woman donned a dress to match the color palette, which was mainly pinks, reds, and golds. "It was great having my family there to meet my coworkers and have them see what great events they throw and their attention to detail," Colleen says. "Steve's grandma is still talking about the flowers and the baby photos of me."
Sips and Shades
Many of the leaves of the flowers used in the centerpieces were spray painted gold with some silver accents.
Colleen loves anything chocolate or peanut butter and will never turn down a cookie or a cream puff. She enjoyed many of her favorite flavors at the shower, thanks to the Baccarat New York.
Dining in Style
In addition to helping themselves to sweet bites, tray-passed savory appetizers appropriate for a high tea celebration circulated the room with napkins in the signature Baccarat red that was incorporated into the event's color palette.
Put a Bow on It
Candy for Days
Bowls of treats from Nuts.com, including "almond jewels," gummy red raspberries, pink and red foil-covered chocolate balls, and pink foil-covered chocolate hearts, were set out for guests to enjoy.
Take A Picture
Revelers had easy access to a Fuji Instax instant camera for candid selfies and quick pics of the fun. Colleen made a little album with them afterwards.
Gems of Wisdom
Photos of loose jewels were printed and cut out so that guests could write well wishes and advice to the bride-to-be.
Here Comes the Groom
"When I showed up to the bridal shower, of course the first thing I noticed was how beautiful Colleen looked," Steve says of his bride-to-be's special day. "I have been to many Martha Stewart Weddings events, all of which were amazing, but this time the team really outdid themselves. The hotel looked spectacular and I was thrilled with how happy it made Colleen."
