Ready to get down on the dance floor during your wedding reception? Then make sure the music is just right. To help you do just that, we asked four wedding DJs to share the songs they'll be playing at every reception this summer. Take their recommendations to heart and you're guaranteed one awesome party.
"I Want to Dance with Somebody" by Whitney Houston
You may be inclined to thank Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for the resurgence of the '80s hit (the royal pair chose it as the soundtrack for their first dance!), but according to Carol Moore, owner of A Starry Night Music, it's actually been a popular choice amongst couples for years now. And now that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have put it back on everyone's radar, Moore expects it to be played at just about every wedding this summer. "Who can't dance to that song without throwing up their hands in joy?" she asks.
"Perfect" by Ed Sheeran
It's only fitting that a groom-to-be would write one of the summer's hit wedding songs. According to David Swirsky, owner and DJ of Expressway Music DJs, says you'll hear this moving tune during different parts of each wedding you attend. "Ed Sheeran's delivery is so earnest that it literally appeals to all ages. It's one of those rare songs that can be used as a first dance song, a cake cutting song, or as the last song of the night," he explains. "It's very rare for one song to be able to do that."
"One Kiss" by Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa
Eric Bernal of Skyline Productions says you'll be ahead of the curve if you play this song as your early summer wedding. "It's one I'm recommending to younger clients for a great dance party," says Bernal. "It's been setting it off the past few weeks, and I anticipate it will get hotter as the year progresses. Calvin Harris never disappoints with his summer hits.
"Finesse" by Bruno Mars featuring Cardi B
"One of the trends I've seen throughout last year and the beginning of the 2018 wedding season is throwbacks. Many couples I work with request quite a few songs from the '90s for dancing and nostalgia value," says Jason Strycharz of The Music Man, DJ Service. "Although Finesse is a current song, it pays tribute to many of the throwback hip-hop classics of the '90s."
"Can't Stop the Feeling" by Justin Timberlake
Can't get enough of Justin Timberlake's upbeat hit? Then you're in luck: Moore says this is another song you'll hear played at just about every event you attend. "It's on all of my playlists these days and by the end of the song even the grandmothers are with their hands in the air singing," she says. "I'm sure this trend will continue for a long time." Swirsky agrees. "Since the day it came out, it hasn't lost one iota of popularity," he says.
