Becky McCabe and Jessa Gillaspie are the definition of the relationship maxim, "On the same page." Their now-viral proposal video, taken at Tennessee's Memphis Zoo on Friday, shows that both fiancées had plans to pop the question—and neither of them knew it.
McCabe thought that she and Gillaspie's trip to the zoo would be an appropriate place to propose since it was the location of their first date. She arranged a group excursion and asked one of their friends to video tape the soon-to-be proposal under the guise of stopping to pose for photos. The footage (which has since been posted on Facebook and YouTube) showed McCabe stealthily hiding a ring box behind her back as she smiled for the camera. In between shots, she turned to kiss her future wife. After telling her she loved her, she dropped to one knee.
And here's where it gets miraculous. Gillaspie, momentarily shocked by the proposal and overcome by emotion, came to and began rustling through her purse—only to pull out another ring box. McCabe, still down on one knee, began to laugh hysterically before her fiancée brought her up for a hug. Like McCabe, Gillaspie had been waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question. Her bride just beat her to it!
"I had no idea she planned to propose, and she had no idea I planned to propose to her! We were both so surprised!!!! We were surrounded by our friends and had the most amazing night. I am the luckiest girl in the world to be able to call her my fiancée," Gillaspie captioned the video, which has been viewed nearly 800,000 times on Facebook. Just as unexpected was the public response to the couple's engagement video. "We had no idea this would blow up so quickly!" Gillaspie wrote, after the video went viral. "But I can't say I'm not thrilled, because all I've ever wanted was for Beck and the world to know how much l love her."
