We're still riding on the residual joy from Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle, and it's not hard to do when there are so many details still being released. Now, we're learning even more about the couple's nighttime wedding reception and the speeches that took place. Rumors swirled earlier this year that Meghan intended to speak during her evening party, and it's now been confirmed that the bride broke with tradition and delivered a toast. What she had to say about her groom was the very best part of all.
"The first person to get up and speak was Meghan. This was a real breach of tradition. Usually the bride doesn't talk," royal expert Katie Nicholl revealed to Entertainment Tonight. Of course, the new duchess isn't just any bride—she's a proud feminist, as her royal bio describes. Typically, the father of the bride gives that speech, but her dad wasn't there. "I was told she wanted to have the chance to say in person a very big thank you to the royal family, which is exactly what she did," Nicholl added.
Apparently, that included sharing her appreciation for Prince Charles, who took her father's place in escorting her down the aisle. After addressing her new in-laws, she turned her attention on her new husband. "When it came to her new husband, Harry, she said, 'I finally found my prince,'" Nicholl shared. "It was very romantic and very sweet." She also thanked her mother, Doria Ragland, "not just for being there today, but for being there for her entire life."
The bride's wasn't the only adorable toast of the night. Another Entertainment Tonight source revealed that the prince called himself and Meghan "a great team." He also "gave a tearful speech" in honor of the late Princess Diana. Meanwhile, the best man, Prince William, wrote his with a lighter tone. "Prince William pointed out that Prince Harry wasn't far behind him when it came to going bald," Nicholl said. The brothers' close friend, Charlie van Straubenzee, delivered a "hilarious and naughty speech," too. "It left the crowd in stitches," the other source explained. "William had warned Harry before the wedding that it was payback time."
