Met Gala 2018: Red Carpet Couples
As far as fashion fundraisers go, the Met Gala is by far the biggest. Since its inception in 1995, celebrities from every different industry step out to celebrate the debut of a design-driven exhibit at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art. While these stars' choice of couture is often the focal point of the evening—their thematic looks often revolve around the exhibition, this year titled Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination—we turned our gaze towards the couples on the red carpet. And what did we find? In-love partners that are just as dedicated to supporting the arts as they are to each other.
And they all looked good doing it. From longtime pairs like George and Amal Clooney and Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady to newcomers like Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinheart and Shawn Mendes and Hailey Baldwin, so many of our favorite twosomes turned the 2018 Met Gala into their own personal date night. Even better, they did it in style.
Ready to see if your favorite A-list partners made our list? Click through to witness all of their candid, intimate moments—and their fashion-forward looks, too—from the 2018 Met Gala. If this doesn't fulfill your need for celebrity couple cuteness, be sure to take a look back at the our favorite pairs from the rest of this year's biggest events, like the 2018 Oscars, Grammys, and Golden Globes.
Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady
The supermodel and five-time Super Bowl champion posed sweetly for the cameras, holding each other close as they flashed their strong bond (they've been married for over eight years!). Like many other A-lister attendees, Bündchen opted for a Versace gown—a natural choice, considering the religious theme of the event.
Irina Shayk and Bradley Cooper
New parents Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk left their young daughter, Lea, at home so that they could step out for date night.
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez
Following a busy weekend of filming her upcoming movie Second Act, Jennifer Lopez stepped onto the Met Gala's red carpet with her longtime boyfriend, former baseball player Alex Rodriguez. Though their chemistry clearly indicates otherwise, the twosome are waiting to tie the knot—but that didn't stop Lopez, in Balmain, for asking for an engagement ring (hint, hint!) in her latest single, "El Anillo."
Diddy and Cassie
At last year's Met Gala, Sean "Diddy" Combs struck a now-famous pose: He laid down on some nearby steps to give his longtime partner, Cassie, solo time in the limelight. This year, they struck a pose together in Musika Frère and Thom Browne, respectively.
Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse
Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinheart play love interests on Riverdale, and that romance eventually evolved into a real-life relationship. The 2018 Met Gala marks the couple's first public appearance as an official item. Sprouse wore an understated black tux, while Reinheart opted for a silver off-the-shoulder number by H&M.
Hailey Baldwin and Shawn Mendes
Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart weren't the only ones to make their relationship red carpet official at the 2018 Met Gala. Singer Shawn Mendes and model Hailey Baldwin (wearing Tommy Hilfiger) were all smiles at the event, confirming what rumors have been suggesting for weeks.
Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski
For some couples, the red carpet is less exciting than what comes after. Take Amanda Seyfried and husband Thomas Sadoski. The actress shared that they looked forward to ordering room service together after the event. That doesn't mean they didn't take the Met Gala seriously though—Seyfried looked like an angel in her Prada gown and matching tiara.
2 Chainz and Nakesha Ward
2 Chainz pulled the ultimate move and decided to propose at this year's Met Gala! He got down on one knee and gave a ring to his his longtime girlfriend, Nakesha Ward. They both donned Versace.
Amal Clooney and George Clooney
Co-chair Amal Clooney stepped out wearing a Richard Quinn ensemble. She was joined by her husband, George Clooney, who celebrated his birthday just the day before. In less than a month, they'll have even more to celebrate—their twins are turning one!
Bee Shaffer and Francesco Carrozzini
Bee Shaffer, wearing a crimson Valentino Couture gown by Pierpaolo Piccioli, stepped out with her fiancé Francesco Carrozzini to support her mother, Anna Wintour, on one of her biggest events of the year. Wintour has been the chair of the Met Ball since 1995.
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott
Kylie Jenner, in Alexander Wang, and Travis Scott just welcomed their daughter, Stormi, in February and are currently adjusting to life as a family of three. This marks Jenner's first red carpet appearance post-baby and the duo's first official appearance as a couple.
Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost
Just after SNL's Colin Jost called Scarlett Johansson his girlfriend for the first time publicly, the couple made their official debut on the Met Gala red carpet. Johansson chose an ombré Marchesa gown for the occasion.
