Sarah Jessica Parker Just Launched Her First Bridal Collection
The actress and esteemed shoe designer partnered with Gilt to bring an accessible range of wedding dresses and shoes to every bride.
Sarah Jessica Parker has officially brought her unique, fashion-forward vision to the bridal industry. The Divorce actress, who's known for creating statement-making shoes, couldn't pass up the opportunity to partner with Gilt, an online retailer that offers discounted designer goods, on a collection of ready-to-wear wedding ensembles and big-day shoes that just about any bride-to-be would love.
While the Sarah Jessica Parker x Gilt collection (which is made up of 10 dresses and 15 pairs of shoes) marks Parker's first holistic venture into bridal fashion, her SJP Collection shoe line has been helping brides look wedding-ready for quite some time-from the foot down, that is. "We've been doing bridal, now, for a while and what we've discovered from our customers is that they want something significant for that day and they keep coming to us for strong colors, saturated colors," she exclusively told Martha Stewart Weddings at the collection's launch in New York City. Bold and bright hues, modern silhouettes, and flattering details define much of the collection, which was designed with women of all "sizes, shapes, and backgrounds" in mind, she explained.
Here, everything you need to know about the fashion legend's bridal launch-including where to get your hands on it before it's gone.
All the pieces in the collection go beyond one day.
Parker considered today's "smart and informed" brides in order to craft dresses, bodysuits, and jumpsuits that can be worn on just about any occasion. "I think a lot of people, though they're sentimental about that particular day, it's nice that [the piece] has a life beyond," she explained. "It's such an investment for everybody and everybody has a different approach. We tried to touch on how sentimental and romantic people are about it and work with it, while still offering pieces that people would use [beyond the wedding]."
The same goes for the shoes.
Many of the designer's signature shoes styles, including the "Cosette" and "Fawn," are available in exclusive colorways (think royal blue, deep magenta, and shimmery disco ball!). All of them, though, are meant to be worn during all the moments of a bride's life, long after her biggest one. "We wanted to give [brides] a 'something blue,' something sparkly-a party for their feet!-but we also wanted to create shoes that had versatility beyond that day," continued Parker.
These looks are all about inclusivity.
From the sizes to the price points (which ranges from $295 to $2,395), Parker's new collection is accessible to everyone. When asked if she envisioned a particular type of bride-classic, bohemian, or contemporary-in her creations, Parker reiterated the collection's mission. "There is no type for us. That's how we've always approached our shoes, and that's why we have customers from 17 to 87," she said. "We've tried to create pieces that are flattering for lots of different body types, ages, and backgrounds-we really consider all of them. Some are more limiting than others, but it was really important to us that there isn't a 'type bride.'"
The styles are virtually interchangeable within the wedding party.
While a bride may pop on the dreamy "Bow-Back" dress for her bridal shower or rehearsal dinner, she can just as easily dress her bridesmaids in the style on the big day. They're interchangeable, too. Many of the looks are comprised of bodysuits and skirt overlays, making them the ultimate mix-and-match pieces that'll feel right at home in a woman's day-to-day wardrobe.
You'll have to act relatively fast.
