Ellen DeGeneres' 50th birthday bash coincided with another special occasion: Amy Schumer's engagement to her now-husband, chef Chris Fischer! The comedian just appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where she discussed the proposal and her wedding with the host.
"We got engaged that morning, so we were going around to everyone, 'We're getting married!'" Schumer explained. Apparently, though, no one took the couple seriously, including DeGeneres' wife, Portia de Rossi. "She really thought you were kidding," the TV personality shared. Nonetheless, Schumer and Fischer took the opportunity to do some research, asking everyone around them for marriage advice. When it came time to consult the birthday girl, however, they couldn't get her attention. On air, the actress explained that she tried to share the news with DeGeneres, but the woman of honor was "in the zone" on the dance floor, so she had to text her after the event.
"So, you got married like two days later," DeGeneres prompted, to which Schumer replied, "Yes we did. I'm so married." She also took a moment to scold DeGeneres for not attending the nuptials. "Everyone has an excuse," she quipped when the host explained that she was too busy filming to join the party.
The two also got to talking about Schumer's relationship, and how the whole thing came about. "We've known each other for about a year. We'd already been living together for about five months," the newlywed shared. Alas, that was all it took before the now-spouses "knew" they were meant to be. "I was like, 'I'm done.' I locked it down," Schumer revealed.
