Couples invite celebrities to their weddings all the time, but unfortunately, the stars can rarely make it. But that doesn't mean that they completely ignore the invitations that they receive. Tom Hanks is the perfect example—the actor was just asked to attend a celebration, and his response was hilarious and sweet.

Kristen Jerkins grew up idolizing Hanks, so when she set the May date for her marriage to fiancé Joe Dobrin, she decided to invite him. "It was my idea to write him. My fiancé kind of giggled at me, but my mom always said, 'You never know, if you never ask,' so I thought I'd try and see if he would say anything back," she told Today.

Not only did Hanks open the mail, but he sent back a thoughtful, typewritten letter. "Dang it, but I am in rehearsal for a play here in Los Angeles starting in May. Gotta send regrets," he wrote. "But, if you are in Santa Monica or Los Angeles in June, I will invite you to come see the production," he added. "Let me know if you can be my guests." How cool is that? Hanks ended the note with well wishes for the future spouses ("congratulations you kooky kids") and his signature.

Tom Hanks isn't new to playing a part in couples' love stories. Last year, he helped a man propose, and he's been known to crash wedding photos!
