Actor Idris Elba attended a screening of his new film, Yardie, this past weekend. Like most stars in relationships, he brought along his significant other, Sabrina Dhowre. But to the surprise of many, she was there for more than just moral support. While on stage, the actor proposed to her in front of the event's attendees!
The screening venue, Rio Cinema, shared the news on social media, as did many who witnessed the proposal. "Another [Rio Cinema] first!" the Twitter post reads. "Still 5 days to Valentine's Day but [Idris Elba] went down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend live on stage this morning before a preview of his film [Yardie]."
While Elba has yet to acknowledge the big moment on his own social media accounts, Dhowre subtly addressed their engagement via Instagram. She posted a photo of the couple out for a romantic meal, and accompanied it with a heartfelt caption. "Baby! I can't tell you enough how happy you make me and how lucky I feel to have found a love like this, you make my heart feel so full. I love you. Forever will always feel to[o] short."
According to various sources, Elba met Dhowre, a model who earned the title Miss Vancouver in 2014, while filming his movie The Mountain Between Us. "Falling in love while making a movie about falling in love is pretty special," the director told People last year, when the couple's relationship was relatively new.
