Ellen DeGeneres just turned 60, and to celebrate, her wife Portia de Rossi appeared on The Ellen Show today. While she was there, she decided to surprise DeGeneres with the ultimate birthday gift. The gesture was so sweet, it even made the host cry.
"It's your 60th birthday, and this gift had to be really special, and it had to represent who you are and what you really care about," de Rossi told DeGeneres before playing a video for her spouse and the audience. In the clip, de Rossi's heard explaining what the present is. "So, for your birthday Ellen, I am bringing you and your hero (Dian Fossey) together, by building the Ellen DeGeneres campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund." As the video explains, DeGeneres considers Fossey to be one of her idols, and she's always had a passion for her work.
As if that wasn't sweet enough, de Rossi added that she's also created a separate fund in her partner's honor: the Ellen Degeneres Wildlife Fund, which she can use to continue helping other animals. The news was so meaningful to DeGeneres that it brought her to tears.
It's already clear that de Rossi's an amazing wife, and that her love for DeGeneres runs deep. But if you need more evidence, de Rossi went on her spouse's show to reveal the birthday gift even though she lost her voice! Talk about commitment.
