It's important for brides and grooms to find an officiant that feels right for their celebration, whether that means choosing a religious leader, a friend, or another qualified person. For one lucky couple, that individual was former President Barack Obama, and their wedding was amazing because of it.

Two of Obama's former white house staffers, Dana Remus and Brett Holmgren, recently tied the knot. When they started to consider their wedding's officiant, the politician came to mind. "We had decided to invite him because he was such an important part of our lives," the groom told the Washingtonian. "We also asked him if he could officiate, and he was intrigued with the idea." Though the couple knew that Obama was busy and didn't set their hopes too high, he wound up accepting the position.

According to the Washingtonian, almost all of Remus and Holmgren's guests were unaware of Obama's role in the ceremony, and those who were were asked to keep it a secret. On the day of the nuptials, he surprised the attendants, officiating the ceremony thanks to a temporary license through the District of Columbia. He even signed the couple's marriage certificate.

According to Holmgren's mother, Obama shared "very, very sincere remarks" that clearly "came from his heart." He also briefly appeared at the pair's reception. "He stayed around a little bit for pictures with the family, but he didn't want to detract from their day," Holmgren's mother added. "Everybody who was there was just flabbergasted and amazed at just what a nice person he is."
