Another British royal (well, music royal) is on his way to the altar! This morning, Ed Sheeran announced on Instagram that he's engaged to longtime love Cherry Seaborn. "Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well," he wrote, prompting immediate excitement from fans.
The news doesn't come as much of a surprise, considering Sheeran's openness about his feelings for Seaborn in the past. Last February, he shared that he felt "pretty good" about potentially marrying her. Then, last May, many assumed that he'd popped the question when actor Russell Crowe referred to Seaborn as Sheeran's "fiancée." While the singer shrugged off those rumors, the proposal was clearly down the road!
Sheeran and Seaborn met in high school, and began dating in 2015. Seaborn's credited as inspiring some of his hit songs, including "Shape of You." They moved in together recently, and may be hoping to start a family soon. In an interview a year ago, Sheeran joked, "I wanted to be a dad, like, last year," and said that he's ready for "tour bus babies." In that same interview, he shared that his relationship with Seaborn is "very strong." "I've never been happier. I've never been more comfortable. I've never been more inspired," he added.
Not long ago, Sheeran offered to sing at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials in May. Now, he may be too busy planning his own wedding! His celebration will definitely be one to remember if he invites his celebrity pals, like Taylor Swift.
