Is there a better way to celebrate your newly-engaged status than with a commemorative photography session? Not according to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who posed for official engagement pictures with Alexi Lubomirski, a fashion and celebrity photographer, earlier this week.
If you thought their photo call snaps were cute enough, then the three new images, shared by Kensington Palace, will blow you away. "Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have chosen to release this official portrait photograph to mark their engagement. The photograph was taken by photographer @alexilubomirski earlier this week at Frogmore House, Windsor."
Lubomirski, who photographed the couple in London, also shared the photos on Instagram, writing, "Huge thank you to His Royal Highness Prince Harry and Ms Markle, for allowing me to take their official engagement portraits. Not only was it an incredible honour, but also an immense privilege to be invited to share and be a witness to this young couple's love for each other. I cannot help but smile when I look at the photos that we took."
Although the couple initially planned to release just two photos, they were apparently blown away by the show of support, and decided to release a third image as a way to say thank you to their fans. "Thank you so much for all of the wonderful comments following the release of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle's engagement photographs. The couple are so grateful for the warm and generous messages they have received during such a happy time in their lives. As a way to say thank you, they have decided to share this candid photograph from the day of their portrait sittings directly with all of you," the palace wrote.

In the first shot, Meghan, wearing a Ralph and Russo dress, leans against Harry's legs (he's wearing Burberry) while he rests his head against hers. In the second, a black and white snap, the couple is cozied up beneath Harry's jacket, and Meghan, in a Victoria Beckham sweater, rests her hand on his cheek. The third shot, a full-length photo, gives us a full look at Meghan's incredible gown. Naturally, her ring is on full display in each. What's most interesting about the images is that they're a far cry from anything we typically expect to see from royal couples. The outward display of affection is typically something Prince William and Duchess Kate don't publicize, but this could be Harry and Meghan's way of setting themselves apart.
Although Will and Kate posed for engagement photos, too, their pictures were quite different. The snap they shared with the world is of the two of them in a very simple embrace. In 2014, their photographer, Mario Testino, told the Telegraph that he photographed the royal pair for two hours before feeling like he finally got the shot. "I wait a long time, an hour or two, to make that picture perfect. But I wasn't totally satisfied. Then, when I'd finished the shoot, they were about to leave and they suddenly hugged in front of a radiator. I took my camera and that was the picture that ran everywhere—it was spontaneous emotion."
