After you get engaged, the first thing you do is call or text everyone closest to you. That's just protocol! Charlyn Willis was attempting to do just that after her boyfriend popped the question. In her haste to text her sister, she ended up typing in the wrong number—which routed her celebratory announcement, randomly, to Sarah Michelle Gellar.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress might not have known the couple personally, but she was still pretty excited about their engagement. So excited, in fact, that she reposted the photo Willis had sent in her message, which flashed her emerald-cut engagement ring, on her Facebook page. "This is #CharlynWillis. She got engaged yesterday, and meant to text her sister, but in all the excitement, got me instead," she wrote. "Please help me say congrats to Charlyn. (And her fiancé whose name I don't know)."
Willis followed up the Cruel Intentions star's post with a Facebook message of her own. "I guess the best way to announce your engagement is to have a celebrity to do it for you. THANKS Sarah Michelle Gellar... AND YES, I SAID YES!" she wrote. After receiving such an outpouring of love from her friends, family, and Gellar's fans, she offered another thank-you to the actress: "Thank you Sarah. You've truly made my engagement experience even more of a life changer! Please know when we set a date, I'll be reaching out to invite you, Freddie, and the kids!"
Gellar isn't the first celebrity to make a proposal even better. Over the weekend, Santa Clarita Diet co-stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant teamed up with Netflix to make one couple's engagement all the more epic, by filming a proposal video with the soon-to-be groom.
