After the Clarence House (a royal residence) announced Prince Harry's engagement to Meghan Markle, it was only a matter of time before the couple gave an interview on television. The same day that they publicized their own engagement, Prince William and Duchess Kate appeared on the small screen, and now, Harry and Markle have followed suit. Their broadcast aired the afternoon of their big reveal, and gave fans a look inside their famous romance.
Just like his brother, Harry used their moment on camera to share his relationship's timeline. According to the BBC interview, he met Markle through a mutual friend last summer—in his words, she "just tripped and fell into my life." About a month later, Harry invited her to join him camping in Botswana, so that the two could spend some time alone. "We camped out with each other under the stars. We enjoyed five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic," he shared. On the trip, they "had a chance to get to know each other," and their love story took off.
The couple also revealed how the proposal went down. Harry admitted that it was a "typical night"—Markle called it "cozy." "It was just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet, and natural, and very romantic," she shared. "He got on one knee." In fact, Markle was so excited, she could barely let him finish popping the question. "I was like, 'Can I say yes now?'" She reminisced. "I was like, 'Can I give you the ring?'" Harry added, to which Markle apparently responded, "'Oh yes, the ring!'" "I think I managed to catch her by surprise," the prince recalled while looking at his fiancée.
According to People, the couple filmed their broadcast just hours after their official announcement. The interview was set at Kensington Palace, where Harry and Markle also took their engagement portraits.
