Our Favorite Celebrity Wedding Guests of 2017
It's pretty exciting to see celebrities do the things we all do regularly. High on that list? Stars attending weddings. Whether it's for the over-the-top nuptials of castmates or the intimate ceremonies of childhood friends, our favorite stars always show up to support their loved ones on the biggest days of their lives. But it's still a little outrageous to picture Beyoncé by an open bar or shimmying on the dance floor, isn't it?
As unlikely as that image may seem, Beyoncé, along with a long list of other celebrities, did attend weddings this year. A few on this roster took it a step further and served as bridesmaids and groomsmen for those they love most. The Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev stood beside her close friend, Julianne Hough, as she exchanged vows with Brooks Laich. Even the Duchess of Cambridge herself attended a wedding in 2017—although, she couldn't exactly skip her sister Pippa's nuptials! Our favorite guest of the year, though, might have been The Late Late Show host James Corden. He showed up to Chris Hardwick's "cowboy formal" affair in a cowboy costume—talk about following the dress code.
While many of our favorite stars showed up to weddings on their own, several brought along famous plus-ones. In August, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez got dressed up to attend the nuptials of a mutual friend. Kristen Stewart and her girlfriend, Stella Maxwell, also showed up to a celebration together—albeit, unintentionally. The couple accidentally crashed a fan's reception, but quickly became friends with the brides. Click through to see our complete list of 2017's best celebrity wedding guests.
Lauren Conrad wins best bridesmaid of the year, hands down. She hooked up the bride, Cassandra Herschenfeld, with gorgeous taupe bridesmaid dresses from her Paper Crown line. Each member of Herschenfeld's crew (13 women in total!) looked lovely in Conrad's creations.
Kim Kardashian, Kelly Rowland, and Beyoncé
The former POTUS made time during his last few months in the Oval Office to support a longtime White House aide and friend as he exchanged vows with his bride. But he didn't just attend the wedding—he was in it! Obama looked dapper in his groomsman's suit. While Michelle Obama couldn't make the ceremony, there was another big name in the mix: Former Secretary of State John Kerry officiated the ceremony.
In January, the "All I Want for Christmas Is You" songstress was hired to sing at a Russian billionaire's granddaughter's reception. After performing "We Belong Together," and several other power ballads, Carey joined the party as a guest. She even brought along her boyfriend, backup dancer Bryan Tanaka, as a plus-one.
Selena Gomez and the rest of the Wizards of Waverly Place cast came out to celebrate former Disney star David Henrie's marriage to Maria Cahill. The singer posted several photos from the April nuptials on Instagram, offering well-wishes to the happy couple: "May God bless you and your beautiful wife Henrie!"
Prince William and Prince Harry
The handsome princes attended Pippa Middleton's nuptials, too! The brothers wore coordinating ensembles, featuring pin-striped pants, double-breasted vests, and matching jackets for the ceremony.
The biggest question concerning Pippa Middleton's big day might have been whether or not Prince Harry would bring Meghan Markel along as his plus-one. The Suits actress may not have attended the ceremony, but the royal made sure that she came to the reception—he reportedly drove 100 miles to pick her up.
Dunst flew to Rome, Italy, in early October to be a bridesmaid for her best friend, Cindy McGee. The actress recently revealed that she's known McGee since childhood. "I had such a good girlfriend growing up that we didn't need anything," she told
In May, former Vice President Joe Biden presided over the nuptials of Henry Munoz, the Finance Chair of the Democratic National Committee, and Kyle Ferrari. Even better, this wasn't even his first time officiating a couple's wedding. He performed his first ceremony in August of 2016, when White House staffers Brian Mosteller and Joe Mahshie tied the knot.
It's possible that Derek Hough was even more excited about sister Julianne's wedding than she was. He continued to gush about the event for months, describing the affair as a "a timeless, magical, romantic experience that was truly perfect in every way."
Bridesmaid Nina Dobrev enjoyed Hough and Brooks Laich's nuptials, too. She had such a great time that she didn't even mind when the party bus broke down on the way to the reception! "Did I mention that this was the most fun wedding I've ever been to?" the Vampire Diaries actress wrote on Instagram. "Can you guys renew your vows every year?"
If you weren't already aware, Chris Hardwick and Lydia Hearst threw the most nontraditional wedding of all time. The theme? Cowboy meets sci-fi. The Late Late Show host fully embraced the theme, and even showed up to the party wearing a bejeweled red cowboy outfit.
In May, the Wolf of Wall Street actress traveled to Kauai, Hawaii, to serve as a bridesmaid in her close friend's wedding. Robbie wore a pastel Zimmerman midi dress, carried a bouquet of local ferns, and even made leis with the bride.
Real Housewives of New York City star Dorinda Medley may have had a rough start on Luann de Lesseps' big day, but it actually could have been a lot worse. On the morning of the couple's nuptials, Medley completely forgot what day it was and almost missed the ceremony entirely. In her haste to get there on time, she forgot her bridesmaid dress, making for yet another fiasco.
At his college buddy's August celebration, Andrew Taggart decided to surprise the bride and groom with an impromptu performance. Taggart and Alex Pall—the other half of the Chainsmokers—took to the stage and performed three of their biggest hits: "Paris," "Closer," and "Something Just Like This."
Beyoncé and Blue Ivy
Serena Williams' wedding actually wasn't the first one Queen Bey attended this year. Shortly after giving birth to twins Sir and Rumi, Beyoncé was spotted at her creative director Todd Tourso's nuptials. Since husband Jay-Z was off performing at a London festival, Blue Ivy got to stand in as her plus-one! The Carter women broke it down on the dance floor—luckily, their moves were captured on video by their fellow guests.
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen were right at home at their friend Cassie Coane's July nuptials. The bridesmaids donned dresses that were colorful, mismatched, and incredibly creative. Mary-Kate chose an orange and cream ensemble, while Ashley wore a black gown with embroidered sleeves.
Pippa Middleton and James Matthews
Just over a month after their own nuptials, Pippa Middleton and James Matthews traveled to County Cork, Ireland, to attend a close friend's wedding. The Duchess's sister wore a jade-green sleeveless gown, and her husband chose striped pants and a black jacket.
The former Twilight actress may not have been an invited guest, but she quickly became a welcome one. When Stewart and her girlfriend, Stella Maxwell, accidentally crashed Kirsten and Kayleigh Jennings's July reception, they befriended multiple attendees, and even took photos with the brides.
When soccer star Lionel Messi and Antonella Roccuzzo married in July, they invited lots of big names—including Shakira and her boyfriend, Gerard Piqué. The singer posted a photo of her and Piqué after the bid day, thanking Messi and Roccuzzo for their hospitality.
The O.C. alum may have been one of seventeen bridesmaids at her close friend's Santa Susana, California, wedding, but she absolutely stood out. In a blush pink lace gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline, Bilson was thrilled to support the bride-to-be over the course of the day. "My beautiful baby bunns is married," she wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of the bride. "I love you to the moon and back #gorgeousbride."
