The Best Wedding Cakes of 2017
The real weddings we featured in 2017 were filled with awesome details, from stunning wedding dresses to amazing wedding bouquets. These celebrations rocked another category too: They delivered big when it came to wedding desserts. It was clear that many brides and grooms set out to serve cakes that were totally unique, and in turn, they impressed us time and time again with their big-day confections.
In terms of taste, there were a few trends worth noting this year. First, we came across multiple floral flavors, including rose and lavender. Some couples also went a nostalgic route, offering throwbacks like Funfetti. If you can't settle on just one taste, fear not—many pairs chose to have a mix. On the decoration front, we saw an uptick in cakes that embraced couples' interests, from a tennis-themed dessert and a butterfly-covered confection to a treat inspired by the bride's artwork. Color was definitely a big theme this year, and berries and botanicals were as popular as ever. Naked cakes continued to reign as well, but were reimagined in new ways.
To showcase all of the incredible desserts we saw in 2017, we rounded up some of our favorite cakes from the past 365 days of real weddings. These sweets stood out for a wide range of reasons, from their delicious layers to their stunning designs. Check out the complete list before setting out to plan your own dessert. No matter what theme or season you chose for your big day, these confections provide unbeatable inspiration.
