Nearly one year after news of their relationship first broke, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are (finally) engaged! The groom-to-be confirmed the much anticipated news this morning with a statement released through Clarence House and Kensington Palace.
In the statement, Prince Harry shared that he popped the question in London earlier this month, meaning royal watchers who were certain a proposal happened in Africa this summer may be disappointed. The announcement also included one seemingly surprising detail: Harry asked Meghan's parents for their blessing before proposing. The most exciting piece of information of all, though, is that the pair will tie the knot this spring.
His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle are engaged to be married. The Prince of Wales made this announcement this morning: His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course. His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty, The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle's parents. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.
As for where the couple will live, we already know that Meghan has made the move to London, and she and her prince will now reside in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace. According to the engagement announcements, the Queen and entire royal family are thrilled about the engagement. "We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together," Prince William and Duchess Kate said, while Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip said they are "delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness."

Meghan's parents are understandably thrilled, too: "Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person," they said in a joint statement. "To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together."
The engagement follows the couple's first public appearance at the Invictus Games, where the prince was also spotted spending some quality time with Markle's mother. Based on Markle's parents' reactions to Harry then, he was clearly part of the family long before he proposed. The actress's father met the prince at the start of the relationship and was impressed with his daughter's choice. "He's pretty happy about Harry and he's extremely proud of her," Markle's brother told The Daily Mail in January 2017. We can only imagine how he feels today!
Now that the engagement has been made public, we're itching to know more about the couple's upcoming nuptials—especially since multiple sources have claimed they've done a majority of the planning already. Given the fact that they've announced a spring 2018 wedding, it's certainly possible that this is true. "They've spoken about their marriage plans openly with each other and friends and family around them are pretty much thinking about wedding attire already!" an insider told E! News.
Beyond what Markle's wedding dress will look like, the biggest detail we want to know now is whether or not the duo will follow in Prince William and Kate Middleton's footsteps and marry at Westminster Abbey. Over the past year, rumors suggested that Harry would prefer a smaller, more intimate ceremony, as opposed to a grand cathedral affair.
