Actor George Newbern, who played Bryan MacKenzie in the cult classic Father of the Bride, has just revealed that the movie franchise may soon be turned into a trilogy. In fact, a script for the third installment has already been written.

"[Director] Charles Shyer wrote a script. I know there's a script out there. And there's talk," Newbern told Us Weekly. "I don't know how far it got but I'm sure most of the cast would be into it if the script was right. So maybe that's just a question of that happening."

You Have to See the "Father of the Bride" Reunion That Happened This Weekend

The original is a classic that fans cannot get enough of. And for good reason! George Banks, played by Steve Martin, is reluctant to let his daughter, Annie, played by Kimberly Williams-Paisley, marry Newbern's character after she comes home from a trip abroad with news that's she engaged. George has a very hard time accepting that his little girl is growing up, and resents her fiancé, which leads to some very memorable moments—including that heartwarming late-night basketball scene between our favorite father-daughter duo. The film also stars Diane Keaton as Annie's mom, Nina, and Martin Short as the wildly eccentric wedding planner, Franck.

The last time we saw the Banks and MacKenzie families was in Father of the Bride Part II. In that hysterical installment, both Annie and her mother gave birth to new babies. Could the third movie pick up with these two kids over 20 years later?

As for Newbern, he has his own ideas of what his character would be up to by now. "I think Bryan MacKenzie would probably be a grandfather now. They had a kid so he's probably got a grandkid at this point, I think. Or at least close to it. Or his daughter would be getting married. He's probably invested in a startup in the Silicon Valley because they are on the West Coast. And they probably live up in the Bay area. They got four kids. They need to shoot a third one. We need to do a third one. That would be great." We agree!
