According to Julianne Hough, her marriage is "even better than the honeymoon phase," simply because she has the love of her life, Brooks Laich, by her side. In an interview with People, the actress and dancer opened up about her rock-solid relationship, safari honeymoon, and life as a newlywed—and how she and her husband are better than ever.
Although Hough has vehemently embraced her marriage, she revealed that the idea felt intimidating at first. "I've always wanted to be married and be a mom and have kids, but to be honest, all of that scared me. I was like, "Oh my gosh, to actually be married and committed to somebody, that just seems so grown-up," she explained. That fear changed as soon as she took up a new life with Laich. "The first thing that I felt when we got married was, "This is the complete opposite of scary. This is like home."
Hough also talked about her Seychelles honeymoon, which she thoroughly documented on Instagram despite advice from friends and family to keep that time private. "A lot of people were like, 'That should be your private time.' But part of our enjoyment is taking pictures and having these memories last forever, and setting up our tripod and doing all our own photos," she explained. Her other reason for sharing honeymoon photos had everything to do with her bride-to-be fans. "Hey, we're in the Seychelles and the Indian Ocean, and on a safari, so yeah, if it inspires somebody to go and do that, I'm 100 percent gonna put that out there," she said.
According to Hough, married life has made both her and her husband stronger as individuals, emotionally and physically. One of the reasons? She and Laich approach health and fitness with the same mindset. "He motivates me so much because [working out is] a way of life for him, because of his career but also because he enjoys doing it. When we first got together, Brooks said, 'Protect the things that are important to you,' and for me, working out and having my alone time is so important to me, and it's the same for him, too." Clearly, their relationship and their workouts are working. "I'm still an independent, strong woman, and what's amazing is I feel even more independent, even more strong, full, and enriched. And I feel sexier," Hough told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month.
