Chris Blue is understandably excited after being crowned the winner on last night's season finale of The Voice—but not for the most obvious reasons. After juggling a long-distance relationship with fiancée Stephanie Dunkley during the competition (she watched his journey from her hometown near London), Blue wants to use his $100,000 winnings to give his soon-to-be wife the wedding "she deserves."
"My fiancée Stephanie is an incredible human being, wonderful woman and incredibly smart, and I've let her enjoy all the wedding planning, I trust her decision making," Blue told WBIR earlier this month. The couple kept in touch with Skype calls, FaceTime, and texts, and planned their summer wedding from afar. "I'm excited to get married! Two months after The Voice. Just incredible, really happy!" he said at the time.
The only problem? The couple's dream wedding was beyond their budget. "My fiancée, she called me in tears about a month ago, because we just did not have the money to afford a nice wedding," Blue told USA Today after his win last night. "We had to take a lot of things away from our already-stripped-down wedding. We didn't even have wedding [invitations]. Couldn't afford it. The church wasn't even going to be decorated. Couldn't afford it."
But after becoming the show's season 12 winner, Blue said he's most excited that he "can give [Stephanie] the wedding she deserves and the start of a very long life together." If that isn't the sweetest gift, we don't know what is. While he's letting Dunkley take the lead on style and décor, Blue does have one thing he'd like to handle himself: Booking a special performer. "I'd love to have Alicia [Keys] fly out, and we'd sing [Prince's] 'Diamonds and Pearls' to my fiancée," he says of a duet with his former coach.
The couple's July 12 wedding is fast approaching, and we couldn't be happier that this adorable and deserving pair will be able to celebrate with the ceremony and reception of their dreams.
