Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar have been married for nearly 15 years. Yes, you read that right! The two first met while filming I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, then also went on to share starring roles solving mysteries in Scooby-Doo. Fast forward 20 years from their very first meeting, and the two are happily married with two kids. But as a couple with such hectic work schedules, it's hard not to wonder what keeps their marriage so strong. So what's their secret?
According to Prinze Jr., one of the reasons their marriage is so great is that they knew each other before dating. "We were just friends. That's one of the reasons I think our relationship has always been so good," he told E! News. "We were just friends for a good two years before we ever went on a date. She knew what kind of guy I was. She knew what my morals were, what my priorities were and visa versa. We already kind of knew all the faults in the other person."
As they got to know each other better, they were able to see if they were really compatible. As it turns out, they were. "We ended up being the perfect balance," Prinze Jr. continued. "But it didn't happen until years after and there was a solid foundation built, and that's probably the main reason why we've always been cool and groovy." The other thing the actor says is important for a marraige? Finding someone who puts a smile on your face. "As long as they can make you laugh, laughter lasts forever," he said. "If you just think she's hot or she just think your hot, you're in a lot of trouble when you're 60!"
From what Prinze Jr. is saying, the secret to a lasting marriage is really understanding your partner. Sounds like great advice to us!
