Serena Williams knows a thing or two about winning. After all, the professional tennis player has won four Olympic gold medals and has been victorious in a record of 23 Grand Slam tournaments. In addition to her professional victories, she's also winning in her personal life. By that we mean her recent engagement to Reddit cofounder, Alexis Ohanian (which she revealed with a poem and a cute sketch on Reddit in December), and, most recently, the news of her first pregnancy (which she announced with a post on Snapchat).
While things seem to be going extremely well for the happy couple, their relationship came as a bit of a surprise to some fans. At the TED 2017 conference in Vancouver, Williams dished about her engagement during an interview with CBS television host Gayle King. Jokingly, King mentioned that her relationship with Ohanian is not something she would have expected, affectionately calling her guest's fiancé "a nerdy geek." To our surprise, Williams agreed. "I wouldn't either," Williams replied, according to Business Insider. "I never felt pressured to get married, and I can't say I'm the marrying type of person."
With her hectic schedule, it's easy to understand why Williams might feel this way. "I love my life, I love my freedom, and I love my career," she continued. "I always felt I didn't want anything to interfere with that." Obviously her feelings have changed. At a post-match conference back in January, Williams wasn't shy about talking about her husband-to-be. "He's incredible—a really nice person," she said, according to People. “I think he definitely treats everyone the same, which is really cool to see. Really, really nice to see.” Sounds like these two are the perfect match. We can't wait to hear more about their wedding plans!
