My sweet mom designed and was working for months on my surprise bridal shower. It was everything I dreamed of and more! She made my day so special. I'm so lucky to be able to call this incredible woman my mom and my best friend. Check out my @people article for the story and more pictures. Link in bio
While 1998 Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski has experienced a lot of special moments in her life, nothing quite compares to one celebration she recently had. On April 15, 2017, the internationally known figure skater was treated to the most perfect bridal shower in honor of her upcoming wedding with Fox Sports producer Todd Kapostasy. The couple got engaged in 2015 when Kapostasy popped the question at the Plaza Hotel in New York. And to get ready for their summer wedding in Charleston, Lipinski's mother, Patricia, put together an incredible bridal shower in Los Angeles.
Lipinski's mom hung pink and mint colored umbrellas that were detailed with satin bows to the ceiling for decoration, bought plates and glasses from antique stores for guests to use, and put crystals on the tables as centerpieces. It all tied in perfectly with the romantic and pastel theme Lipinski's mom knew her daughter would love. "I'm so close with my mom that I knew every part of the shower would reflect my personality perfectly," Lipinski told People. "And it definitely did!" To complement the style of the shower, the bride-to-be wore a cream-colored lace jumper and topped off her look with red roses in her hair.
In attendance were 30 of Lipinksi's closest friends from all around the country, including her bridesman and fellow figure skater, Johnny Weir, her childhood best friend, and even one of her old Olympic coaches. According to Lipinski, having everyone there with her in one room "was emotional". "I couldn't believe so many people flew in to be part of this day," she said. "That meant so much." Her husband-to-be was at the California celebration, too, because Lipinski knew that she wanted him to stay. "Todd walked me in and then I just couldn't let him go," she said. "So he stayed. It made the day that much better and even more memorable."
Overall, the celebration sounds like it couldn't have been more perfect. "It was emotional," Lipinski said about the shower. While the bridal shower is over, the couple still has a lot to look forward to! "I know my favorite part of the wedding will be walking down the aisle with my dad where I will then stand and look at Todd and try to say my vows without crying," says Lipinski. "I will need double strength waterproof mascara." If this sweet get together is a reflection of how the couple's wedding is going to be, then we know it's going to be nothing short of magical. We're already excited to see how beautiful and romantic their summer soirée is going to be!
