An Urban, Modern Wedding in Houston

Taylor and Korey

Most people on Tinder might not expect to find true love but Korey and Taylor lucked out when they both swiped right. After dating for about a year, Korey, a financial advisor, proposed in the couple's home before a dinner party. "The funny part was that I tried to take a video, so I had my iPad set up in the kitchen but didn't stage myself well so I exit the frame when I get down on one knee," Korey explains. "I'm still glad we have most of it on video though," he says.

When the wedding planning process began, Taylor gladly took the reins as the founder and creative director of events company LIVE! Event Design. After a 10-month engagement, the Houston-based pair wed on October 14, 2016, in an intimate ceremony with 40 guests. "The overall look for the wedding was clean, modern, and organic," says Taylor of their venue choice, Hotel Sorella.

Nobody would mistake this fun-loving couple's wedding for one that was stuffy or overly buttoned-up. Of the wedding's fun dinner party atmosphere, Taylor explains, "we had all of our friends standing around us with cocktails in hand as we said 'I Do' and danced the night away to classic diva standards until the wee hours of the morning!"

Taylor collaborated with Color Box Design & Letterpress to create the modern invitation suite in shades of cream and gray incorporating a sans serif font and linear accents. The invitations were sent in gray envelopes with marbleized liners and white calligraphy by Meredith Allison Calligraphy.

Guests were treated to sweet and salty treat boxes featuring the couple's favorite snacks. Tex-mex flavored snacks and a white chocolate raisin mix were complemented by a bottle of Grey Goose vodka and a pair of sparkling mixers, ready to be poured into custom cups. As Taylor points out, "Who doesn't love a little something in their room after a night of dancing?"

"We wanted to do coordinating suits instead of traditional black ones or tuxedos. Also, we wanted to be able to wear them in the future," explains Korey (on the left). The resulting ensembles from Suitsupply allowed both grooms to embrace their individual styles while still looking cohesive.

Just moments before the service started, Veuve Clicquot was passed in nontraditional flutes sourced by Taylor. As the grooms were pronounced husbands, everyone had their bubbly and the newlyweds concluded the ceremony with a toast.

Held in the living room of the penthouse suite, the couple's ceremony featured numerous personal touches. Their friend, Evelin Rincon, officiated, and the couple wrote their own vows. Taylor and Korey also decided to forgo a wedding party as they felt all their guests were equally important.

The Guestbook

"We do have some friends who like to have fun, so we wanted to get some great quotes out of them before they had too much to drink!" explains Taylor of the "While You're Still Sober" signage. So a coffee table book of New York City (one of the couple's favorite places to visit) was set out. Taylor and Korey plan to look over the inscriptions inside the book on their first wedding anniversary.

For the unconventional escort card display, guests names and table assignments were applied with a vinyl transfer to lanterns placed atop Lucite columns. The wedding's signature marbled print was printed on the backs of the lanterns.

The gray ghost chairs from Blooming Gallery and industrial centerpiece stands at the reception tables paired well with the venue's hardwood floors and window walls. Designed by Taylor, the flowers gave a softer touch to the space. Green antique hydrangea, white hydrangea, and white roses were included in the tops of the centerpieces while the lower portions were kept simple.

The meal began with a fall-inspired salad with micro greens, candied nuts, prosciutto, pear, a Parmesan crisp and a champagne vinaigrette. For the main course, guests enjoyed petite filet mignon, pan-roasted cauliflower, and fall vegetable risotto.

Susie's Cakes created the three-tier confection with a double tall middle tier. The bottom and middle layers were a mix of white and chocolate cake while the top was Italian crème. Inspired by the appearance of a light stucco, part of the cake's exterior featured stark white textured frosting giving a nice contrast to the middle layer which was an ombré of blue and gray tones.
