It's safe to say Ryan Gosling's favorite role he's ever taken on is being a parent. The actor opened up to GQ to discuss everything from Eva Mendes as a mother to his two little girls, Esmeralda and Amada. Warning: Your heart may explode.
"Your whole life, you hear what it's like to have kids, and all the clichés are true," he said. "I felt I knew that everything would be different, but until you experience that, there's no way to really know what people mean." Believe it or not, parenting was never really on Gosling's mind until it happened. "I didn't have a romanticized idea of it … It came about in a very surprising and kind of organic way," he said. "There was nothing kind of premeditated about it, you know. It just suddenly was: My life had changed. And thank God it did."
"Eva's the dream mother, and they're dream babies, and it's like a dream that I'm having right now," Gosling says of Mendes and daughters. "I'm dreaming it all."
"When you meet your kids, you realize that they deserve great parents," Gosling continued. "And then you have your marching orders and you have to try and become the person that they deserve." And with that, Gosling said that he and Mendes have agreed to keep their little girls out of the spotlight.
The two have been together for five years, but so far, no wedding. Though there were some reports in September that they had secretly tied the knot, Mendes's publicist quickly dispelled those rumors.
