Seriously, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's love story just keeps getting better and better. This past weekend, Reynolds turned the big 4-0, and despite just having a child, the couple managed to slip away and celebrate the big birthday in style: with a surprise birthday party planned by Lively!
The actress treated her husband to dinner at the Japanese restaurant O ya in New York City—the very same eatery where the two first fell in love. Lively posted a photo on Instagram, which shows the two embracing in a room decked out in balloons—including gold mylar ones in the shape of the actor's age—as Reynolds holds a similar shot taken at his 35th birthday. Be prepared: The picture will make your heart melt.
"@_o_ya_ We fell in love at your restaurant in Boston," Lively captioned the photo. "We stay in love at your restaurant in NY. Thank you for the BEST food and memories! You are our FAVORITE!! Another happy birthday with @vancityreynolds. Hey, Reynolds, I like you a whole lot. Just sayin'…"
Perhaps the restaurant was the setting of their "awkward" first date—which was basically straight out of a rom-com.
Reynolds also shared a photo of the celebration, thanking not only his wife but his two children, 22-month-old James and their 3-week-old baby, whose name has not yet been released. He captioned the photo, "Best. Birthday. Everrrrr. Courtesy of my wife, buddy, and international spy, @blakelively. With huge thanks to my favorite restaurant in NYC, @_o_ya_ -- and a special shout out to our children for not ruining everything like they planned."
Reynolds and Lively even had their friends, like Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift, feeling the love. Swift commented on the photo, "Thanks guys now I'm drowning in tears of joy," while Kloss chimed in, "everything goals."
Lively and Reynolds married in 2012, and have been going strong ever since. In June, Lively revealed the reason she married Ryan Reynolds in an interview with Marie Claire: "I knew he would always be my best friend for my whole life," she explained. "That was the biggest thing to me. I'd never known anything like the friendship that I had with him. I could like him as much as I loved him."
Happy 40th, Ryan, it seems like it's been the best one yet!
