Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks go way back. Thanks to their incredible chemistry, the actors have played each other's love interests in four films: Joe Versus the Volcano, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, and most recently, in Ryan's directorial debut, Ithaca. During an appearance on Good Morning America today to promote the movie, in which Hanks plays a small part—that of her character's late husband—Ryan also reunited with her "work husband," who was there to promote another movie, Sully. The moment, which is basically a romantic comedy dream come true, was captured in this photo, which Good Morning America tweeted.
Granted, the reunion took place at GMA's Times Square Studios, and not the Empire State Building, where their characters famously reconnected in Sleepless in Seattle, but anywhere in NYC has us reminiscing on those romantic, Nora Ephron scenes. Ryan also discussed the film, in which her in-real-life son, Jack Quaid, also stars (as her character's son), including what it was like to work with Hanks again.
"He's so adorable that he, like, gathered the crew around after the 10 hours that he worked and said, 'I'm so happy that we got to know each other so well in these last 10 hours, but thank you for being here for my friend Meg.'" Ryan said. "So adorable."
We're glad to see these two have stayed close over the years. Of course, Hanks is happily married to Rita Wilson (the two just celebrated their 28th anniversary and are one of our favorite real-life love stories), but he and Ryan will always be Sam and Annie, or Joe and Kathleen, to us.
