Big sis (and Duchess of Cambridge) Kate is all for Pippa Middleton's engagement to hedge fund manager James Matthews—in fact, she and Will are "absolutely delighted," according to a Kensington Palace spokesman.
And considering Pippa's stellar performance as maid of honor at the 2011 royal wedding, it would only make sense that the sisters reverse roles for the upcoming ceremony.
But as we all know, royal weddings aren't regular weddings, and familial bonds come with a slew of complications. With that in mind, some are speculating that Kate might take a pass on serving as bridesmaid. The main concern? Unintentionally out-shining the bride.
"It's a tricky situation for Pippa. She would want her sister by her side, as who else would she trust to make things go well?" veteran royals author Judy Wade told People. "But if your sister is a future Queen, she is going to upstage the bride and draw attention. Kate would want to be in the background as much as possible."
As much as we'd love to see Kate carrying the bride-to-be's train, whatever her decision, we're sure it's the right one. Besides, with the possibility of Prince George and Princess Charlotte serving as ring bearer and flower girl—or page boy and bridesmaid, as they're called in Europe—is there really anything to be sad about?
