Superficial celebrity scrutiny isn't new, and it's especially harmful to women both in and out of the spotlight. After Jennifer Aniston was falsely deemed pregnant by tabloids—again—she joined a number of other female celebs by speaking out against impractical beauty standards and sexist media headlines.
The actress, who chooses not to use social media, penned a Huffington Post article titled "For the Record" to express her disappointment in the celebrity gossip industry. Angered at the assumptions made based on her appearance in paparazzi photos, she shared a powerful message: "We are complete with or without a mate, with or without a child," adding, "We get to decide for ourselves what is beautiful when it comes to our bodies." Among her points, the former Friends star noted the ridiculousness of being unable to enjoy a burger without being "deemed one of two things: 'pregnant' or 'fat.'"
To show his solidarity for Aniston's essay, husband Justin Theroux posted a heartfelt message on Instagram in support of his "fed up" wife.
Sharing a link to Aniston's article, Theroux's display of love was short but sweet. Using the Women Crush Wednesday (WCW) hashtag, he wrote, "Here's just one reason why," and included a subtle "#gogirl" for good measure.
It's amazing to see a couple so supportive of one another—especially one as private as these two.
