Last Wednesday, NFL star Russell Wilson married singer Ciara in an England ceremony at Peckforton Castle. Now, the new husband is sharing what it's like to be a married man and stepdad to Ciara's two-year-old son, Future Zahir.
On his wedding, Wilson told Entertainment Tonight: "We had 100-plus people there," with all guests being "really close friends and family." The intimate ceremony reflected a goal the couple set—when it came to their nuptials, privacy was important. Luckily, they chose the perfect guests. "They understand it's about love and keeping each other close and keeping it real tight knit, so that was easy to do for the most part. Everybody kind of kept their mouth shut," said the Seahawks quarterback.
When asked if things felt different between him and Ciara post-ceremony, the sports star responded with a "no, not at all," noting that all that really changed was Ciara's last name. "We're so close. She's my best friend, and we're madly in love with each other obviously. We're the Wilsons now, so it's pretty cool."
Wilson had a few favorite moments from the wedding. "I'll tell you, the best part of the wedding was watching her walk down the aisle," he told People. "I had so many [thoughts], but to see her gracefully walk down the aisle in that long train," (the bride wore a custom Roberto Cavalli gown, pictured below) "and to realize I was going to spend the rest of my life with her gives me chills," the happy husband revealed.
@Peter_Dundas I just want to take this moment to say THANK YOU for being a part making this day perfect for me, and bringing my dream dress to life!! All the, face time calls, meetings, sketches, multiple fittings from NY to Milan were worth it! You are the sweetest soul, and one of the most talented human beings I know. Love you. Wilson also gave shout-outs to the couple's wedding planner, Mindy Weiss, who threw just the reception he was looking for, featuring a very specific musical guest. "To listen to Earth, Wind & Fire—the best band in the land—perform for so long and entertain for us and all night long basically until the sun came up was really, really cool," he shared.
The big day may be over for the happy couple, but the party's just started. "I want to have a bunch of kids—me and Ci do," the footballer shared, citing his special bond with Ciara's son Future. "I think that ever since the first day I ever met Ciara and Little Man, too, it's been really cool and really special." "I think ultimately,” he added, "the one thing I can say about being a stepdad and any person that's a parent—but especially when you come into a new situation—the key is loving the child as your own."
If that's not heartwarming enough, Wilson has full confidence in Ciara's mothering—something he willingly takes part in. "Ciara's such a great mom. She reads to him every night. I read to him too, and we just share so many special moments together. That's what family is about. Ultimately, it's about giving back and loving as much as you can to your fullest. That's what you're able to do together."
Here's to hoping the Wilsons' fairytale never ends (and to getting some photos of that heart-melting first look Wilson gushed about).
