In Redbook's July issue, Lauren Conrad opened up about how two years of marriage to husband William Tell has changed her. The reality TV star and fashion designer, who is known for her insane party-planning skills, has taken her lavish party themes down a notch since tying the knot.
"Now that I'm throwing parties with my husband, William, I have to keep in mind that he prefers—how do I say this—easier themes than what I've done in the past," the Celebrate author said. "He doesn't like to feel that he's asking friends to go out of their way. So now we do a birthday hoedown because everyone owns a pair of cutoffs and a plaid shirt. I'm learning how to compromise!" That's what marriage is all about, LC! And it seems to be working: The couple, whose birthdays fall within a week of each other, even threw a joint birthday party back in February of 2014, and for their wedding, Conrad and Tell collaborated with our editors on super-special favors that were personal to both of them. "Martha Stewart Weddings was kind enough to work with us on them," Conrad said. "They really took the time to make it specific to us. We did a sort of game-night theme, so it was a really cute little wooden box with cards that we had made to match our invitations, little candies, a little pencil and pad to keep score, with game rules. We're also really nerdy so we did little puns. We renamed card games—'Crazy Eights' was 'Crazy Love.'
Since saying "I do," Lauren has also learned to love her husband's quirks, including his extensive guitar collection. "I have a collection of teacups I display in my dining room. My husband doesn't get why I love them so much. To be fair, I don't share his passion for guitars," she told Redbook. "I mean, I guess I can understand why he might not see the beauty in a gorgeous, hand-painted teacup. We each have our own things, and that's healthy."
