In light of his latest successes and stardom on Broadway as Alexander Hamilton, actor and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda has garnered ample media attention. That's why it was only a matter of time before a 2010 video from his wedding to wife Vanessa resurfaced, showcasing the star's uncanny ability to combine musical genius with humor and a heart full of love.
The video begins with the father of the bride asking a smiling, newlywed Miranda to take the stage and deliver an "impromptu" speech. But when the two men start to speak—or should we say sing—the crowd laughs in anticipation of a clearly choreographed number.
It's not long before the entire wedding party joins in, dancing and singing to a modified "To Life" from Fiddler on the Roof, serenading the bride who beams from her seat.
"All of Vanessa's close friends and family rehearsed for a month in secret, leading up to the reception," Miranda wrote in the video caption. "What we lack in polish, we hopefully make up for in joy and love. In any event, everyone in this video has one thing in common: We'd do anything to show Vanessa how much we love her."
They succeeded at that! The video ends with a teary-eyed Vanessa receiving hugs from her mom and dad and a kiss from the surprise performer himself.
Miranda's Broadway musical, Hamilton, of which he wrote the book and score and stars as the lead, earned the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 11 Tonys including best original score, which the composer accepted with a heartfelt and inspirational sonnet-speech.
While his speech addressed recent tragedy, it also reminded us of what makes life worth living—love and the power it holds. Miranda included a special shout-out to Vanessa then too, describing her as "the reason anything gets done" and "a perfect symphony of one," making him long due for another accolade on his belt—all-star husband.
