What a year for Brie Larson! First an Oscar, now an engagement ring. Just one month after Larson earned the Academy Award for Best Actress for her work in Room, her boyfriend of several years, musician Alex Greenwald (you might know him as the voice behind The O.C.'s theme song, "California"), popped the question during a trip to Tokyo. But it wasn't until Larson hosted Saturday Night Live on May 7 that anyone spotted the engagement ring on her left ring finger. And today, Larson's rep confirmed the happy news to Us Weekly.
In the past few years, the celebrity couple has attended many awards ceremonies together, with Larson first publicly thanking the former Phantom Planet frontman after winning Best Actress for Short Term 2 in 2013. "I'd like to thank my boyfriend, Alex Greenwald, for making me pasta and taking care of our puppy while I made this movie," Larson gushed. He sings, cooks, and loves puppies? What a keeper.
Larson must think so, too. The couple has stayed strong, and she continued thanking her partner from the stage as she snagged awards throughout this year's Oscars, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Independent Spirit Awards, with Greenwald often mouthing the words "I love you," from the audience in response. "He's the other half of the equation," Larson told Entertainment Tonight at the SAG Awards. "How can you explain support? I mean, it goes beyond anything. He's just my person, he's my best friend." Summing it up at the end of her Academy Award acceptance speech, Larson said, "To my real partner, Alex Greenwald: I love you, the whole thing!" Enough said.
