Eight years ago today, everybody's favorite power couple officially tied the knot in a super-secret ceremony. Their wedding date, the fourth day of the fourth month of the year, actually has some serious significance to Queen Bey. In her movie "Year of 4," she says the number four has always been "my favorite number since I was a kid. It's the number of my birthday, September 4, my mother's birthday, January 4, my husband's birthday, December 4 [and] it's the anniversary of my wedding." So celebrating the "double four" milestone must be a pretty big deal for her and her husband, who even have the Roman numeral IV tattooed on each of their ring fingers.
The 2008 nuptials held in Jay Z's penthouse apartment in Tribeca in New York City, housed only 40 guests and lasted until almost 5 a.m., according to People. Bey had nearly 70,000 white dendrobium orchids flown in from Thailand for the momentous occasion, because if the Queen wants 70,000 white orchids, she's going to get 70,000 white orchids.
Four years after saying "I do" (there's that famous four again!), the couple welcomed their daughter, Blue Ivy, into the world, and the power couple became a power family. In 2014, the duo renewed their vows and co-headlined their highly successful "On the Run" tour, where they showed fans a clip of their wedding video (at the 2:30 mark). Last year, for their 7th anniversary, they vacationed in Hawaii, and Jay Z posted part of the same video on Instagram. Though it has since been removed, we're crossing our fingers that this is the year they decide to share more footage!
With another incredible Super Bowl performance, the release of hits like "Formation" and "Hymn for the Weekend," and the announcement of both her world tour and athletic line, Ivy Park, it looks like Bey and Jay are about to slay 2016—and their eighth year of marriage.
