A Light and Airy California Wedding with Tons of Personal Details

Chris Sigala had always known who Kristin Carl was even before he got the opportunity to meet her. "I remember vividly seeing her for the first time, back in freshmen year, one of the first days of school outside of the dorms," he says of a moment that had been imprinted on his mind ever since. "I even remember asking a friend who she was and thinking that she was the type of girl I should hang out with."

But it wasn't until senior year that they officially met. It was at a mid-year party off campus in Los Angeles—on the dance floor. Kristin was talking to one of Chris's friends, and he used that as an opportunity to introduce himself. "I remember doing some weird flirt dance thing with her to try to get her attention and dance with me," Chris notes. Kristin definitely remembers him being a bit weird, but it worked, because they started dating.

Six years after graduation, Chris proposed to Kristin on a surprise trip to Mammoth, California, a special spot for the couple, as it's where they took their first trip together. And though they got a delayed start, the Venice, California-based duo made things official, seven years after they formally met, on June 27, 2015. A picturesque spot (Tehama Golf Club in Carmel-By-The-Sea, California), neutral colors, and a laid back style set the scene for the fête that celebrated the couple, their passions, and the views.

The Stationery

The stationery suite was a custom creation by Wylie West Creative, with dark green ink printed on to textured white paper, a response card with a picture of the couple at Cyprus Point (a favorite spot in town), an information card with a photo of the wedding venue on one side and relevant details on the other, and a two-sided map illustrating the wedding venue and places to go in town, sightseeing spots, and golf slang. Modern and handwritten merged, with the duo of fonts used for the celebration: Geo Sans Light and Sudestada.

Custom icons were used throughout, tying in the couple's one-of-a-kind crest, inspired by old country club logos and reinterpreted in a modern way. The badge's design incorporated the couple's initials, Chris's last name, and two trees, since trees are a big part of the beauty of the Carmel area and also symbolize strength, stability, and longevity.

Wedding Gift Bag

Upon their arrival, guests were gifted with a drawstring welcome bag also created by Wylie West Creative, with a "Sigala Roadtrippers" logo on the front playing up the last name the couple would share post-wedding.

Welcome Goodies

The gift bags were filled with all the essentials needed for the celebratory weekend: a soy candle from The K and L Co. (the bride's cousin's company) in a beachy scent, a custom matchbook, a Carmel-By-The-Sea guide, a copy of the foldable map from the invite, a hangover kit, a pouch of coconut millet granola made by La Femme Epicure, and water bottles.

The Bride's Dress

Kristin tried on quite a few dresses until she put on a Reem Acra gown. "It was the perfect combination of everything I was looking for," she says. "The top was beaded and the bottom was silk." She accessorized with meaningful jewels—her mother's diamond tennis bracelet and grandmother's ring.

The Bridal Bouquet

Kristin's lush bridal bouquet was a plethora of dahlias, roses, veronica, seeded eucalyptus, lisianthus, and lavender.

The Bridesmaids

The lively group of bridesmaids rocked their own nude and blush pink gowns from a variety of designers and topped off their wavy locks with fragrant crowns of greenery and lavender.

Bridesmaids' Bouquets

Each bridesmaid toted a bouquet of blush roses, eucalyptus, lisianthus, and lavender.

The Guys

The groomsmen looked sharp in black Zara suits accented by white rose boutonnieres and crisp pocket squares. Chris sported a Ralph Lauren Black Label tuxedo, Title of Work bow tie, Bruno Magli shoes, and a Baume et Mercier watch from Kristin.

The Ceremony Spot

The ceremony location at Tehema Golf Club presented views of the Carmel Mountains. To add to the jaw-dropping scene, Melody King of Fleurish Floral bedecked the ceremony site with soft pink and white floral arrangements and green garlands. The property came with an added bonus—its owner, Clint Eastwood. Chris counts sharing a toast with the accomplished actor pre-ceremony as a highlight of the day.

The Programs

The programs were unique two-sided paper fans—one side with a star map illustrating the precise view of the night sky the evening of the wedding and the other side outlining the ceremony and festivities to follow.

The Flowergirls

Four sweet flower girls graced the aisle, clad in pale pink Zara dresses while carrying petite bouquets.

The Vows

The couple wrote and planned the ceremony with Kristin's uncle who served as the officiant. The service incorporated traditional vows and a mixing of white and red wines, to represent the combination of two families that could not be pulled apart once mixed. While the wines were poured together, the bride's cousin sang "The Wedding Song" by Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Officially Married

Photographer Peer Johnson captured the newlyweds as they held their hands up in celebration before joyfully recessing down the aisle as "All You Need Is Love" by the Beatles played.

Loud Escort Cards

Hand painted wooden maracas, jingle sticks, and jingle bell tambourines were made by Wylie West Creative and set out during welcome cocktails before the ceremony. The colorful creations served many purposes—as escort cards for the reception seating, but first and foremost as noisemakers to celebrate the newlyweds. A card reading "Instead of throwing rice, get ready to make some noise" was affixed to each. Once the bride and groom started back down the aisle, the cacophony of sound resounded.

The Seating Chart

The seating chart was printed on clear acrylic with gold vinyl application, displaying the table names and locations. Instead of numbers, tables were given locations in town that are special to the couple, including the bride's elementary school and favorite golf courses.

The Guest Book

Wylie West Creative repurposed a vintage sheet music book found by Kristin's mother to be used as the guest book by attaching gold envelopes to each page with a label listing each week of the first year of marriage and the Sigala crest. Accompanying the book were small white notecards for guests to write down advice, well wishes, and words of wisdom for their first year of marriage, with the couple opening one envelope each week.

The Reception

Long Reception Table with Red Flower Arrangements — Peer Johnson

Following a cocktail hour on the east deck with violinists playing as the sunset, the group moved inside for dinner. Beneath lush greenery, the wedding party was seated at one long farm table and the rest of the guests sat at round tables surrounding them.

Table Décor

Tables were adorned gold compotes holding arrangements of dahlias, roses, and a mix of greenery. Table names and coordinating symbols printed on vinyl guided guests to their seats.

Hand lettered menus outlined the meal, which began with a salad of butter lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and sweet onions. Braised short ribs and Mazatlan prawns with lemon thyme butter, whipped potatoes, and vegetables followed.

The Cake

Kristin and Chris jumped at the opportunity to have two custom cakes made by Robin Redding. The couple cut into a coconut cake with Valrhona white chocolate cream cheese frosting, decorated with fresh flowers.

Groom's Cake

A Valrhona Caraibe double chocolate stout cake on a custom cake stand made of Monterey cypress tree trunk made for a delectable groom's cake. The sweet-loving duo also gave sugary treats to go—the venue's special cookies paired with milk. Chocolate chip for him and oatmeal raisin for her.

The First Dance

With tambourine in hand (Kristin never put hers down the whole night) the newlyweds shared their first dance to Bruce Springsteen's "Tougher than the Rest."
