The Modern Family star spilled a few wedding secrets in our Style Issue interview—that there will be a "superspecial dessert table," that there wouldn't be a bachelor or bachelorette party, and that the guest list exceeds 300!—but new tidbits are emerging as the day draws nearer. We couldn't help but keep track:
Julie Bowen wanted to throw her a "naughty" bachelorette party.
At the Variety and Women in Film Emmy Nominee Celebration, Sofía's Modern Family costar said she was hoping to plan some inappropriate pre-wedding festivities (complete with phallic details), but that Sofía's other pals voted against it. "I'm going to get her some Kmart underwear from her collection and give it to her on set in a colorful thing and make her open it and hold it up," she joked to People and other outlets. "I'm going to make her wear a penis hat and run around in maybe New Orleans with a hat that says, 'I'm the bride,' and we'll all have matching t-shirts."
Sofia said she is "beyond" a bridezilla.
"I am very detail-oriented, so I am kind of like a nightmare," she told Good Morning America of planning her and fiancé Joe Manganiello's wedding. When Lara Spencer offered up the word "bridezilla," Sofía replied: "I think I'm beyond that … I have a very good memory. If you show me swatches of things, I can in two months exactly remember, 'But what happened with the one with the little border that had the little print?' I'm really bad."
We think she's being a bit hard on herself. The bride-to-be was nothing but laid-back when we spoke with her, emphasizing "I want a wedding where the guests are going to have fun."
She and Joe do pre-wedding workouts together.
Well, sort of. The actress said to InStyle that Joe built a home gym, where the couple exercises at the same time, but with individual focuses. While Sofía's routine involves caffeine-fueled cardio, the Magic Mike actor and husband-to-be practices a more intense workout, including "Olympics-type lifting."
It's rumored that she'll wear Zuhair Murad.
A source told Us Weekly that the designer is custom-making Sofía's gown. While it hasn't been confirmed, it would make sense: Murad has dressed Sofía for a number of red carpet events, and the brunette bombshell revealed to us that she wouldn't stray far from her fashion and beauty routine. "Your wedding is not the time to try new things—you're going to have these pictures forever," Sofía said. "My body looks better when I have fitted dresses with more support … I'm 43, so I can't really be looking for something too crazy. I have to go with what looks good on me."
A Magic Mike-like dance is not out of the realm of possibilities.
There's no doubt about it, both the bride and groom have some serious moves—Joe's proven his in the film, and Bowen is vouching for Sofía's skills, too. "I've seen her dance and it is Magic Mike-worthy," Bowen told People. But a sex swing—like that in Magic Mike XXL—"would be too much for a wedding," the actress joked.
We know one thing for sure about the couple's first dance: Sofía has designated the area as strictly Joe's responsibility. "I told Joe hopefully he'll decide that, because if it were up to me, we'd dance to Pitbull," she said to us.
There aren't plans for wedding photos.
"The only thing I know is that they're not doing official wedding photographs," Bowen told People. "I love that because it says to me, 'We're not going to spend a lot of time on the traditional, we're just going to get to the fun.'"
