A Colorful Destination Wedding in Marrakech, Morocco
Federica and Tom
In September 2009, Federica attended her future bridesmaid's birthday party and met her future husband, Tom. The twosome grew to be inseparable. Bonded over a love of life and travel, the duo was together for four years when Tom proposed to Federica at a Moroccan restaurant in London on her birthday.
The Italian couple, who reside in Dubai, shared their first weekend trip together in Marrakech, Morocco, two months after meeting. The pair fell in love with the vibrant city and knew immediately it would be the perfect destination-wedding location. Inspired by the natural ambiance of Morocco and French romance, they created a getaway weekend revolving around food, drink, and fun five years after that first vacation. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 2015, Federica and Tom exchanged their vows with 60 of their dearest friends and family by their side at the Church of Marrakech. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests spent the rest of the evening at La Mamounia Hotel indulging in a decadent jubilee full of red, orange and pale pink details, rosé champagne, and mini desserts.
The Stationery Suite
Rosie Harbottle created a colorful floral stationery suite for the couple's destination wedding, including a map of the area and details of the weekend's festivities.
The bride's gown was a long-sleeved, French lace creation with buttons down the back by Italian designer, Luisa Beccaria.
Federica and her mother both wore bright Manolo Blahnik shoes for the big day—Federica in yellow heels, and the mother of the bride in orange flats of the same style.
The bridesmaids wore long dark blue taffeta skirts from Max Mara paired with assorted white blouses and statement jewelry, making for a unique bridesmaids look. Both the bride and her 'maids also held bouquets in shades of red, orange, and pink.
Federica and Tom said their 'I Do's' in a ceremony at the Church of Marrakech.
Tom's favorite memory of the day was watching his nephew, Antonio, escort his future wife down the aisle amidst the gospel choir singing "Ave Maria."
The couple was full of joy as they exited the church as newlyweds and headed to take portraits at their reception venue.
After the ceremony, guests journeyed to the La Mamounia Hotel for a night full of drinking, feasting, and dancing. The exotic hotel was built nearly 90 years prior and has remained untouched ever since. Inspired by the vibrant colors and culture of Morocco, La Mamounia served as the bold canvas for the reception.
The grounds of La Mamounia incorporate many Moroccan elements, including high archways, large hanging lanterns, detailed tile walls, and fountains. The couple's vendors utilized the lively space for both photos and decoration.
Before the couple met guests at the cocktail hour, photographer Catherine Mead snapped their portrait.
Federica and Tom later joined their guests in the hotel's courtyard for canapés and drinks. "During cocktails at La Mamounia, I was talking with my friends about how fantastic Tommy is and I really cried with happiness," says Federica.
The reception consisted of both French- and Moroccan-inspired components such as floral arrangements with shades of red flowers and dark purple fruit, vintage candelabras, and a plethora of small votives.
Soft egg, caviar, Parisian-style lobster, wild sea bass, and shellfish were served on white plates with gold details.
Along with a cake provided by Boutique Souk, guests could snack on an assortment of French confections. The petit deserts included ile flottants, tarte tatin, gateau au chocolat, and berries tartellete.
Seeing that Federica is a huge French macaron eater, a tower made of caramel, vanilla, violet, and raspberry flavored treats was a must for the reception.
The pair shared their first dance as man and wife to "Angels" by Robbie Williams, the song that was playing when the couple shared their first kiss.
Guests clinked their glasses together after enjoying toasts to the newlyweds.
