Celebrity couple Chrissy Teigen and John Legend shared that they're expecting a baby. "John and I are so happy to announce that we are pregnant," Chrissy captioned her Instagram photo, which showed the beaming daddy-to-be touching his wife's barely-there baby bump. "Thank you for all your love and well wishes. I look forward to all the belly touching!"
John posted the same photo but with a short and sweet "We're pregnant!"
The news is especially exciting for us at Martha Stewart Weddings, as the stars shared their wedding in our Spring 2014 issue.
The future parents first met in 2006, when a mutual director friend suggested that John cast Chrissy in the music video for his song "Stereo." The friend thought they'd be great together, and he was right.
"The shoot was pretty up close and personal, and I got to know her big personality—she's very fun, very clever, very gregarious," John told us. "It's not the normal way to court someone, but hey, it worked." We'd say so! That introduction launched a seven-year romance, and on September 14, 2013, the pair made it official in a gorgeous wedding in Lake Como, Italy. "One of the first vacations we took together was to Lake Como, so we thought it would be nice to marry where we fell in love," says John.
Ever since then, we—along with the rest of the world—have followed along with their love story. John's hit ballad "All of Me" was dedicated to Chrissy, and the two also share intimate glimpses into their lives on their social accounts: eating fast food in bed, snuggling their sweet dogs, and just generally being hilarious and adorable on the daily.
But though they are the epitome of a beautiful, happy couple, the road to parenthood hasn't been an easy one for Chrissy and John. The Lip Sync Battle co-host and cookbook author has been open about their trouble conceiving, candidly sharing her story and advocating for others with similar issues on the Tyra Banks show FABLife.
"John and I would have had kids five, six years ago if it happened, but my gosh, it's been a process," Chrissy said on the show. "We've seen fertility doctors. And then once you open up about all those things to other people, you start learning that a lot of other people in your life are seeing these people and have this shame about it."
These struggles are all the more reason to celebrate their baby news: "As many of you know, we've been trying to have a baby for a while now," Chrissy shared in her Instagram caption. "It hasn't been easy, but we kept trying because we can't wait to bring our first child into the world and grow our family. We're so excited that it's finally happening."
So are we. Congratulations to the family of three-to-be!
