Fathers of the bride everywhere, take note! Todd Bachman was set to escort his daughter, Brittany Peck, down the aisle at her wedding to Jeremy Peck this weekend. But Bachman knew he wanted to share the moment with Brittany's stepfather, Todd Cendrosky, even though, as Peck told the Chronicle-Telegram in Lorain County, Ohio, the two men have previously had a strained relationship.
In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Peck grappled with who should accompany her for the processional. "She called me and said, ‘Dad, something’s bothering me …'" Bachman told the Chronicle. "I told her I already had something planned. She was so torn, and the last thing I wanted was for her to be torn."
So on the big day, Bachman did something that brought everyone to tears: He unexpectedly left his daughter at the top of the aisle, marched over to Cendrosky, grabbed his hand, and led him back to where Brittany was waiting.
"He has been as much a part of her life as me," Bachman told the Chronicle.
Then, with one on each side of the bride, the two men walked their daughter down the aisle.
Ohio photographer Delia D. Blackburn shared her shots of the heartwarming moment on Facebook Sunday, writing "NOT A DRY EYE at the ceremony..including me! Families are what we make them...make it about your kids and not your ego. Congratulations Todd Bachman on showing your kids what true love really is...love for your children. Please share so that we can spread kindness throughout!"
And share, they did. In just a few days, the album has garnered over a million likes, nearly 500,000 shares, and over 40,000 comments, many of which commend the dads for their actions and congratulate Brittany for having not one, not two, but three men who love her so much.
"Seriously this needs to be shared!! Amazing work Delia D. Blackburn," Brittany commented on the photographer's Facebook post. "I'm so lucky to have this." We couldn't agree more.
"I always wanted to (walk a daughter) down the aisle," Cendrosky said to the Chronicle, "and when I married my beautiful wife, Candy, she gave me three daughters. I don't have 'stepdaughters' … I have daughters, and when Todd grabbed my hand … that was the best day of my life, and I wouldn't change that day for the world. We have become family, and the children's needs need to come first."
Weddings with multiple sets of parents have the potential for drama and hurt feelings, which is why it's so refreshing to see family members who can set aside their pride for the sake of the bride.
If you're searching for some other ways to make your stepfather feel special, you could ask him to do a reading or act as an usher. You could also let him to make his own father-of-the-bride speech, or have two father-daughter dances so you can take a spin with both.< p> Get More Stepparent Tips
